Toe brakes on Saitek pedals

Hi folks.

 

Just installed DCS about a week ago. I'm still struggling getting everything setup.

I am using Saitek joystick with throttle and pedals. They all work fine in the sim, except I can't the it to recognizes the toe-brakes when I try to set it up in the setting menu. I am in the right column as you can see on the pic.

Any suggestions?

You'll have to bind those in the axis, rather than systems.

I think what you're trying to bind them to there is more like a button or switch.

With the Saitek pedals, you will also have to invert the toe break axes (click "axis tune" and check the "invert axis" checkbox). Once in the cockpit, use the controls indicator (Ctrl+Enter) to verify that the binding is working as intended.

Please keep in mind that not every plane has a toe brake. For example, the MiG21 has the brake at the stick...

How do they then brake? I mean in R/L since it's simulated with the keyboard.

Some planes in DCS like in FC3 one have the wheel breaks which you can turn on/off by "W" key (IIRC). In other words they work binary - applied or not. What can be done is to configure within Saitek software the pedals so that pushing a toe break triggers a corresponding keystroke. Planes like A-10C in DCS have progressive, separate left and right breaks which have axis assignments.

If you wish I can post screenshots illustrating how to do that later today when I'm back at home.

SU-25 T in game don't allow map axis for brakes (F3C legacy).

 

But if you want brakes with foots use Saitek soft' and map the right/left brakes axis to send "W" - default wheel brakes (both wheels).

If I do that Sokol within the Saitek software, won't it then also effect my other sims?

 

If so, then I prefer to stick with the darn default key option.

Not if you make a "DCS-SU-25" profile in Saitek soft and load then only when play DCS.

 

A simple way to test the idea is use Joy2key for send the W.

This keymapper divide each axis in 2 bands, use Up (50-100) to send W.

I can't get the Saitek software to launch properly, the software for the pedals not at all.

So what I did, was what I also did in Il-2 BoS. I assigned the second tricker on the JS as break. You have two were one is above another. I use the lower one as break. Works will for the Soviet aircraft's in Il-2.

BTW - In (IL-2) BoS press a button for "wheel brakes (both) work for Soviet and Luftwaffe & P-40 - although the last two can be used "toe brakes", if available.

You may try to re-download and reinstall both drivers and software - http://www.saitek.com/uk/down/drivers.php. If I remember correctly while installing the drivers the pedals should not be connected.

 

As for setting up the toe breaks:

1. Run the Saitek Profile Editor from the tray menu

 

2. On the Programming tab select select "Bands" for the left toe break. This will create 3 default bands for left toe: 0-33%, 33-67%, 67%-100%

 

3. Place the mouse cursor in the grey area, below "Left Toe = Bands" title. Click on "Edit Bands" button.

4. Click on "clear" icon - which is second to the left

5. Click in the white area below "Left Toe 0%-100%" text. This will create a new band. Use slider to move the band up to create two bands 0-3% and 3%-100%. Click "OK".

6. Click inside the second band (3%-100%). This will show the cursor. Hit "W" key on the keyboard once. Accept by clicking on the green check box.

(Creating 2 bands may not be needed but this was the only way I could make it working - maybe due to dead zones. Obviously you may chose other value than 3%).

7. Repeat steps 3-6 for right toe break.

8. Test the profile, pushing the left or toe break should mimic W key being pressed.

 

9. Save the profile. Select it from the tray menu! Otherwise it will not work. You may also run a notepad. Stepping on left or right toe break should have the same result as holding W key.

 

 

11. Run the game, make sure that "W" key is assigned for the wheel breaks.

 

12. Open Axis configuration. Make sure that the pedals are assigned only to the rudder axis.

 

 

The configuration is done separately for every aircraft. Obviously, if its possible to assign breaks under axis configuration above steps are not needed.
