Which makes no sense because they say the 12k ft is really because of noise complaints and the ""russian spec ops" is just a story for immersion purposes...

They are not to be overflown lower than 6.5k AGL.

So, *rounding up* for those who want an MSL figure or who don't have a rad alt: 12k MSL.

Thanks Steve!

I have to say, this is the most fun I've ever had with a campaign! Really great job on it!

Hog pilots

Following discussions with Matt, we've edited the A-10 RF briefing materials to indicate a minimum altitude over the farms of 12k' AGL (17k' MSL) - this is in order to stay out of the Igla MEZ.

For the absolute purists out there, we acknowledge that the 'real life' restriction is lower. But for this RF campaign, that's the limit we're settled on.

Updated material will be available when the next update is released (we're still waiting on a confirmation on when that will be).

mission #4 altitudes puzzle?

In mission #4, lineup card has us pushing from 7 to 8 over The Farms at 8000' msl. That's 3000' agl? We are advised to overtly The Farms at 12000' agl, to avoid special forces Sam's.

I will be flying this mission over the weekend, just wondering if anyone has completed #4?

I presume we must fly at 17000 msl, pushing from 7 to 8, or can we just ignore the altitudes?

Cheers.:)

Thanks for that Steve. Also thanks again for a great Campain. Its totally immersive and very addictive!:D

I have still not succeeded with mission #4. To avoid having to cross The Farms at 17000' I have taken my route up a little, just north of The Farms. This permits my ingress at low level, where I feel happier;) Also avoiding those Mig caps. Situational awareness is failing me at the moment! Last night I flew over the top if the primary without knowing where I was and got a SAM up my tail pipe for my mistake!:megalol:

Great fun and a great experience....even loosing!

Well, I completed mission #4! The disturbingly realistic experience underlined the fact that I actually needed the wingman to support my attack. I know there are pilots out there who will laugh and say they took out the SA19 's by themselves, but not this pilot! All the successful training in the world can't beat that "live fire" feeling...even in a sp campaign. You can feel confidant completing your training missions, only to "forget" how you did it when the bullets are flying in your direction!

For the first time I experienced AI wingman flying sensibly.....and as a joint attack, proved very sucessful.

Now I am wondering about a WW2 campaign, with Spits and Me109s over the south coast.....my silk scarf blowing in the wind from my open canopy on return to mother earth...:D

I can not progress. Can anyone help out here. Can I edit the log some how?:helpsmilie::helpsmilie:

EDIT.

This is hopeless!

Every time I edit the file and load the campaign, it puts me back to mission #4?

I have tried editing this for the last hour and same result each time.

The log is re written every time DCS starts up???

This campaign is not playable for me.

Unless I re install and try again from the start?

Hi,

See screenshot 5

Your problem is Stage 7 with RF-A10C-4.miz

It works

Done 2 missions

Next Nr. 3

Manipulated my logbook.lua

Done 4

Next Nr. 5

Many thanks.

My editing problem was not incrementing the "RF-A10C-5.miz", and onwards....

There being four number increments to each block, using the mission counter.

I have no idea why the log became so scrambled?

Thanks again.

Hey Steve and Wags,

I'm not normally one for the SP campaigns but for the last week my internet has been reduced to dial-up speeds so I thought I'd finally give the RF campaign a shot.

I'm really glad I did, most of all I have thoroughly enjoyed the story and scenario that has intertwined these campaign missions. Especially the small details like IRBIS SHELBY, what a treat!

The incremental difficulty of each mission has been well balanced. At first I was concerned the campaign was aimed at newer pilots after I systematically tore apart a defenseless SPH battalion in one pass. A couple of flawless sorties later and I clearly got complacent. A foxbat nailed me post VUL while I was busy expending the last of my ordnance on some remaining targets. Luckily I was able to limp towards the friendly side of the FEBA and eject. Also very fortunate the mission had already been deemed a success and I was able to progress - phew! Ever since I have been foregoing the package comm freq in favour of AWACS channel after pushing.

Fast forward to MSN8 (CSAR) and things took a slight turn for the bizarre. If you're not yet up to Mission 8 I suggest you tune out here!

====SPOILERS BELOW====

Pushing into the target area, a sneaky Mig-31 engaged me from almost 50nm away with an R-33. The briefing did warn to brush up on the Russian radar missile arsenal but I wasn't expecting to be pinged so early whilst the F15 sweepers were in the mix. Fortunately a quick dive to the deck was able to defeat the missile and a Mudhen finished off the Foxhound with an AIM-9M of all things.

A possible problem with MSN8 is where the players A10 section is to provide CAS for a downed pilot. The group of Russian mech inf that is speeding towards the survivor was engaged by the JTAC and his mighty M2 equipped HMMWV. In fact it was the JTAC who dealt the most damage to them and a damn good thing too! There were only two BMP-3s left for my rippled Mavs by the time we ran in but they were mighty close to the survivor. After that I was told 'good work, NFT, cleared RTB.'

I'm not sure what trigger sets the MECINF into action but between pushing about 5 minutes early and going defensive with the Mig-31, my AGM-65s arrived at their targets with less than a minute to spare. Perhaps the gameplay of this mission might need a tweak?

Also I have a tacview log of the mission, if anyone is interested to check it out just let me know.

Anyway, I've still had a great time with this campaign so far. It'll be a shame when it is complete. I look forward hugely to both your work on the campaigns for the Hornet/SOH.

Hi Steve and Wags,

Congrats for the excellent campaign...

Just to know how can we take off on time, due to the lack of time for the start up procedures and take off time.

Cheers

Hey MROK, If you look for some efficiencies in your start up you should have no problems getting airborne on time. Are you doing an auto-start? If so, it takes a fair bit longer than if you were to manually run the start-up.

Also, on each mission I was flying an A10 VFR tactical departure which heads straight north to join the Sally corridor and avoids steerpoint 2. Got me into the hold nice and early every time.

Thanks for the quick answer Dusty, but that's not what I'm looking for...

I know I "can" make the desired TOT, and T/off on time. The question here is HOW, and that could be a "realistic" way, which takes time, or a "simplistic" way.

In order to be realistic, which is what I'm looking for, I need more time from the step-in till the taxi time. For instance, mission 3 we step into the aircraft at 1540z, for a taxi time at 1545z. 5' is too short to perform all the procedures in a, some sort of "real-life" way!

So what I'm wondering is if it's possible to change the step-in time in the mission editor?

Sorry for asking, but I'm away from my desktop, and cannot give a try myself...

Thanks in advance

MRO

Not correct.

There's nothing unrealistic about a 'scramble' launch. Throughout almost every major conflict that the A-10 has participated in there have been scenarios where aircrew have had to launch in the shortest possible time to hit time sensitive targets or get on station ASAP for ECAS or CSAR missions.

If you still don't believe me here's an example of Hornet and Vipers going at it:

[ame]

[/ame]

Also consider this from Wags and Steve's position as the mission designers. This DLC is a product aimed to be accessible to players of all backgrounds. They would purposely not want to have 'realistic' red flag launch times as it would make each mission last an unnecessarily lengthy amount of time.

Due to the fact that in DCS we can not save mission progress mid flight and return to it at a later date, missions that are multiple hours would not appeal to many who paid money for this and there would be a backlash. A balance has to be found and I think they've done well.

Due to these considerations, it is unlikely you will see a change in the mission prep time considering it is already possible to fly a very 'realistic' profile and still arrive in the marshal well before assigned push time.

MROK73 specifically talked about mission 3. As I recall it, there's nothing "scrambly" about it. It's pre-planned, with plenty of time to get all assets organized.

But I agree that a compromise needs to be made between realistic timings and those that suit DCS. With complex missions, I'm afraid it's not as easy as adjusting the time for just one unit, because all the other unit's timings and/or triggers would probably need to be adjusted as well.

I think 5 minutes is a good general assumption. Some pilots might be a bit faster, some will take a little longer, and others will just want to take-off ASAP and do the rest in flight, seeing as the ingress is pretty long anyway and there are visual landmarks for the first couple of waypoints until INS in-flight alignment is advisable. Generally speaking, I guess 5 minutes should work okay for the majority.
