Hi guys, I wonder if there is any way to improve filtering for textures in DCS because for some reason this game seems to dont have ANY AF at all no matter how much/where you configure it or if you do it in game or from control panel...textures look awful at small angles...tried adding negative lod bias but cant see any difference...

This is how it looks with 16x AF with in game option on and off in nvidia control panel and then off in game and on in nvidia CP...same result (bad result)

Bump.

Same issue (?) here.

I thought something was incorrectly configured on my side but I think it looks like I can't apply any AF (in-game setting or NVidia panel).

It's particularly noticeable when aligned on a runway or during NOE flights.

If there's a known solution, I'll gladly head to the related thread ;)

(I'm using a GTX 970 GPU + i5 3570K, latest drivers (368.22), W10 64)

Interesting. Haven't flown 2.0 for quite a while, so didn't notice it, but after just checking, indeed, no matter if running borderless windowed, or fullscreen, changing via in-game or NV cpl, I can't get any AF to work. NVidia here, with drivers updated a couple of days ago.

Surprised to see my old post here again :)

The problem is not the lack of "any" AF but the fact that the one actually working (yes, there is "some" AF) is just AWFULL!!...no matter what I tried (Lod bias, levels, in game/nvcp, etc.) nothing will improve what should be probably the most important filter for a flight sim (in order to be able to sharply see the ground at certain distance)...so, sadly I guess we cant do anything about that :(

Isn't it a mipmap issue instead ? Like if the texture resolution is downgraded too much at short distances, no matter how much the AF is, filtering big pixels gives bad results.

I'll buy :

Good point! It might be mipmap related, indeed.

Since the comments, I checked no AF and AF x16 and didn't notice any difference in the distance (the runway markings progressively disappear).

It's nothing "game-breaking" anyway. Even if it could be nicer and then more realistic (distance/scale perception). At least it's not some kind of ugly clipping with textures or models popping-in (that's horrible).

(it should also be easy to find the texture and remove the additional mipmap levels to confirm it's the culprit, but I doubt it's worth the effort)

What Area are you in? You might be in the low Detail Area of NTTR.

In my case, I could clearly see the difference between no AF and 16x so probably AF is not the problem...the thing is textures look really bad at high angles.

Doesnt matter, it looks the same in any place...even 1.5 version has the same problem (runways lines are not distinguishable at very close distances.

K, I'll look into some this weekend, I run everything either low or high depending on if Im in VR or not, but I've never had the AF Not work in the way you're describing.

Bourrino, after doing some testing on my GTX780, I've noticed that aniso works allright, but ONLY if set to "app controlled" in NVidia cpl, then adjusted in the game itself.
