tom1502 Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 Hi all, I know this is likely to be a long shot but is there anyway to send information between the A-10C and Ka-50 datalink? Thanks in advance, Tom Windows 10 Home - 64 Bit Intel Core i7-9770K 32GB DDR4 RAM Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080Ti Oculus Rift S
tom1502 Posted February 19, 2016 Author Posted February 19, 2016 Didn't think there would be. Thanks though! How about designating targets with the laser? Windows 10 Home - 64 Bit Intel Core i7-9770K 32GB DDR4 RAM Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080Ti Oculus Rift S
Cik Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 that shouldn't work either but i've never tried it. if it's a night mission and both of you are have night vision the IR pointer will do the trick, though. and there's always good old fashioned marking smoke, either delivered by rocket or by a JTAC's grenade launcher.
Eddie Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 Again no. Russian and NATO systems just aren't compatible.
Sryan Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 Nothing, except that the laser of one can set off the Laser Warning Receiver on the other. There was a mod around though, that did what you want. Check my F-15C guide
tom1502 Posted February 19, 2016 Author Posted February 19, 2016 Thanks guys. As I said, thought it was a long shot! Windows 10 Home - 64 Bit Intel Core i7-9770K 32GB DDR4 RAM Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080Ti Oculus Rift S
Ashilta Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 There is, of course, nothing to stop pilots taking data from ABRIS or TAD and manually inputting it to the other system!
Enduro14 Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 In this sim laser ir marking is able to be seen by ka50 pilots when A10c pilots mark tgts with it. Designation and or guidance is not something that works in this sim between the two airframes. Also realize the Jtac in game can also mark tgts with IR pointer also Intel 8700k @5ghz, 32gb ram, 1080ti, Rift S
tom1502 Posted February 19, 2016 Author Posted February 19, 2016 There is, of course, nothing to stop pilots taking data from ABRIS or TAD and manually inputting it to the other system! True...but we're not that advanced yet! In this sim laser ir marking is able to be seen by ka50 pilots when A10c pilots mark tgts with it. Although I have had the A-10C for a few years I have only just started to learn how to use the systems. Afraid I only started this week. I can fly the Ka-50, but there's loads to learn there too. I have a friend that only flies the Ka-50 and I thought it could be pretty good if we could designate targets for each other. Just do not know how to yet. Thanks, Tom Windows 10 Home - 64 Bit Intel Core i7-9770K 32GB DDR4 RAM Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080Ti Oculus Rift S
Cik Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Is the Laser IR marker different to just the laser? yes. the laser is not normally visible; the IR pointer is designed specifically to be visible through the use of night vision goggles (NVG) which both the KA-50 and A-10 are equipped with. to fire the IR pointer, go to the right side of your TGP screen while it is active (so, in A-G or A-A modes, not STANDBY) and click the button that says "LSR" there are three options you can flip between "LSR" (laser) "PTR" (pointer) in pointer mode it only fires the pointer, which won't guide laser-guided bombs, and "BTH" (both) which will fire both at the same target. it's a very useful marking tool as it's incredibly easy to see, even from long distances, and both projects a very bright "beam" from the A-10 (so you can easily see where the A-10 is, roughly) and a pretty decent "spot" on the ground, which allows you to easily find the target that's being pointed out. the disadvantage is that only the A-10 has one, so the communication is one way, and it's only useful at night because in the day obviously the NVGs are totally useless. Thanks, Tom you are very welcome!

Thanks, Tom Smoke rockets are very effective for marking targets during the daytime. The A-10 can even launch them in CCRP mode if you need to mark something a long distance away. The black shark is a little more limited in that regard (CCIP only) but with skillful employment you can lob them 5km or more, which is far enough to be safe from most common threats so long as you are careful.
Wrecking Crew Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 the laser is not normally visible Hi, Cik, I agree with your post except for this ^^^. The laser is not visible.
