ekg Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 I tried out the furball mission with 12xP-51 vs 16xD-9. The result of it was that all the D-9s were shot down and only 3P-51s were shot down. Should the AI be improved for the Dora so that it can take advantage of it's strengths vs the P-51?
IronJockel Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 AI doesn't do energy fighting very well and directly turns in on their target. You can set up a 109 and a Mig21 with guns only and see the 109 win a lot. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

LeCuvier Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Try Bf-109K AI! I replaced the Dora's in the Furball mission (including Player) with Bf-109 and the AI Dora's slaughter the AI P-51's very quickly. By the time my flight is in the air and at altitude, the P-51's are already decimated. I rarely manage to defeat more than one P-51 because there is none left. Frequently no Bf-109 is lost at all (except my own ). In terms of AI, P-51 beats FW-190 and Bf-109 beats P-51. PS: When I fly one-on-one gainst WW2 AI birds, I'm also most successful with the Bf-109 LeCuvier Windows 10 Pro 64Bit | i7-4790 CPU |16 GB RAM|SSD System Disk|SSD Gaming Disk| MSI GTX-1080 Gaming 8 GB| Acer XB270HU | TM Warthog HOTAS | VKB Gladiator Pro | MongoosT-50 | MFG Crosswind Pedals | TrackIR 5
Spectrum Legacy Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Well it was mentioned a couple of times before, how the furball mission plays out depending on the AI skill level and planeset. As Jockel mentioned, AI has certain way of flying and some planes fit in this style better than others do. Even with the simple flight model the AI planes are using, the difference shows. As a side note: If the AI stays the same, it will be a real devil in the Spitfire, I'm sure of it! ;) Sent from my pComputer using Keyboard
Combat Wombat Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 " it will be a real devil in the Spitfire, I'm sure of it! " Very true Spectrum ! as I drift of into a day dream )
Flatsixes Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 I am new to DCS (but not to combat flight sims), and only have about 12 hours in the Dora. Really love the aircraft. Fabulous flyer. After some practice I felt confident enough to give her a go against a P-51. Ouch. This is going to hurt for a while, isn't it.

After some practice I felt confident enough to give her a go against a P-51. Ouch. This is going to hurt for a while, isn't it. If you have the option, you could give her a spin in v1.2.16 (e.g. via steam - 32bit beta branch is available there). I did so today and ofc 1.2 is inferior to 1.5 / 2.0 in pretty much everything, but man - Dora feels sweet there. Very balanced and pure joyride. So yeah, maybe it is not just that simple in the end as saying that AI just loves to turnfight, therefore 109 is in advantage :P Sent from my pComputer using Keyboard
