  1. Aye, I've even went and instinctively put my glasses on as the blur was so genuinely myopic. I see more of a plasma or old-school laser gun effect rather than fireball-thrower tbh.
  2. My Russian is not what it used to be, but if this is the confirmation that Mig23 / 27 is in the works, frankly I wouldn't bet on it a single cent right now. As Art-J said, wishful thinking at best. However, I really want to be wrong in this case! Only time will tell.
  3. Yes, that's why I never got the reply back from them I think. Thank you very much for the info and help. DIY project is good, I have no problem to do some soldering and do some tweaking in m5 configurator tool :) Cheers again, Sokol!
  4. Looks pretty authentic! BTW I know you have a lot of knowledge about both Cobra M5. Do you know if it is still possible to buy MaRS set (sensor, magnet, maybe wires) and set of springs for M5, I think rev.B? Or some kind of substitute that would work the same way. I remember there used to be a Russian shop with spare parts, but I never got the reply back (maybe 2 years ago). Thanks for the info!
  5. Overall good guide I think! Depth of field, that thing is something I outright despise in games, along with chromatic aberration. It's there maybe just for a couple of artistic screenshots, but that's it. Whenever I see some dcs video with external views that got DoF enabled, it's like supermyopia and rather cringey. Superfetch and prefetch are to be disabled on systems running on ssd too. I went ahead and disabled a lot of nonsense that is being run by OS, like user experience scans, telemetrics and other crap. At least W7 allows you to terminate those processes. Something little that helps on some systems is also disabling windows aero (or desktop composition features). Texture filtering on the other hand never gave me any good performance boost, usually 2-3 fps difference. P.s. I used to work for Repsol for a good couple of years. Those were the days! :P
  6. I would love to have Su25 (early) as pfm/asm full fidelity module for DCS, along with Mig29A. One can dream, right?!
  7. Optional R-73 without the HMS could be a thing. Much more reasonable than Grom, although I'm happy we have that one too. At least until we get proper Mig variant that could carry Grom irl, or even upgraded 21-98 etc for better missiles. But maybe what ED guys are saying is that it would require additional work to implement boresight mode on 3rd party module? Btw Cuban skin in-game is one of my all time favourite for the 21. Thanks for posting that video and pics earlier in this thread. Love both 21 and 29s in it.
  8. Maybe it's related to issues in collision file of mig21, which was reported earlier in v2.x. Here is a workaround posted by Rudel for v2.x, you can try it in 1.5.8 but no idea whether it would work or not (backup original files first of course): https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3332427&postcount=49
  9. Vulcan is being implemented for DCS, just no idea what kind of performance boost it will provide and when it will be available. I wrote it in another thread already, but maybe since I keep typing it with 'k' as Vulkan, it wasn't obvious right away. I also wonder how it will affect the DCS's worship of singlethreaded performance. Can't wait to find out honestly, it could freshen the thing up a bit!
  10. It's simple really, depending on the api: Dx11? Go Nvidia. Vulkan? Go AMD. Since I have no idea when Vulkan will arrive for DCS and how well it will be implemented (I was wondering back then whether there were any plans to implement it for DCS prior to dcs v1.5/dx11 being released, but I don't think I got the answer on forums back then), so I would say that right now Nvidia is safer bet for DCS. Second gen VR is interesting for the resolution, because quite frankly, as of now having your whole fov crammed to such low resolution feels very inadequate esp. for long viewing distances and details, which flight simming is full of. On a side note, do you know who's PC can drive dcs as 64bit process with 90fps / 16.6megapixel-per-frame output using dx11? Nobody's! We struggle a bit with current 2.6megapixel in VR now, don't we?
  11. Bit, this is exactly the reason why g2g is good on paper and advertising, giving you very rough estimate. It doesn't tell you how well your display will perform on average, since those times stated are the best possible ones on the whole grey to grey scale, using full overdrive (so imagine quality flies right out of window, due to insane overshoot). Marketed g2g number doesn't account for signal processing, nor response times and transitions which are much slower. You shouldn't be worried about first frame having not fully lit pixel (even if it was the case, but it's already not for those faster IPS panels at high refresh rates these days - this was a problem when we had g2g of 20+ms and/or no overdrive), as g2g tests switches from one grey to white and back to grey. In reality, e.g. when you play dcs, you won't get this drastic shifting of brightness of said pixel in each subsequent frame (said pixel will mostly stay lit at similar levels for good amount of frames, esp. on higher Hz - that's why refresh rate is a clear winner here). As an example I would just point out that PG279Q, the IPS you mentioned has on average the same input lag to your 278Q TN panel, due to lower signal processing times, thus negating slight advantage of faster response time of the matrice alone ( in this case ~3ms for TN vs 5ms for IPS). Or are you saying that you are using extreme overdrive preset for that 1ms g2g (in a very limited range to boot)? Because that would be the only case where it's indeed marginally faster, but with very degraded visual quality as a tradeoff.
  12. I'm not very into TN displays, so forgive my bias. Mostly I use one screen for everything on said machine, ranging from reading, watching movies, to playing games. I just couldn't take those artifacts on TN. For me, best allrounder is IPS/PLS. Backlight bleed is a thing that is not exclusive to IPS panels. Build quality matters though, because if the bezel is pushing at the panel on the edges more than it should, it will pronounce said bleed. Maybe you meant IPS glow that was distracting to you? Just make sure you have the display properly set, esp. brightness according to your room lighting and that you are not too close to the screen itself. Yeah, IPS has something like minimal viewing distance that goes up with screen size naturally. Advertised response time I wouldn't take seriously at all, it's mostly marketing gimmick - high rerfresh rate and low input lag (from processing circuitry) is what you are after. But if you are not into visual fidelity and just want to game on it, TN could do (but I personally wouldn't pay 800$ for an old calculator tech). Hope it helps somewhat.
  13. Frame extrapolation in vr to smooth out movements, mostly used when hardware struggles to keep up with fps.
  14. Don't worry firmek, I've read every single post in both main threads regarding CE2 to this date to form my opinion about what is going on here. Don't really need a summary, nor explanation. What this module brings to core of the platform is yet to be seen. As I said earlier, I would love to see some added value or extras coming along with this bird too. Yes, slower progress on Mig21 fixes is not what I'm happy about either (since its release it's my main module), but maybe the whole picture is a bit wider in this case and the dev team actually waits for the coveted 2.5 merger (and that is just my guess here, I speak only for myself). Meanwhile working on CE2, refining it and adding visual aspect to it - so it wouldn't end up just as private synthetic test bed. Or so it would occur to me, on top of it considering also the funding and manpower to create content, afford the plane licenses, etc. Isn't that alone an addition and of benefit to the community? Especially since it's something different - an aerobatic biplane. Or do you reckon keeping it in private would have been better overall - causing less angst or grief even to some? Despite my effort I don't fully understand the hostility and general toxicity either, especially the way how it is presented here more than anything. Maybe having enough of it is the reason I'm pointing it out? Works both ways I would say. Maybe reading all these posts wasn't the best idea after all? (in all fairness though, there are some very good ideas, proposals and constructive criticism drown among that ruckus and venting)
  15. Ez az! :P Just wanted to say a huge thanks for all your awesome work on Mig21/29A/L39/Su25 (and many others I think). I was very happy when I got back to DCS now and just discovered your skins for these planes of such high quality. Czech(o)Slovak and Hungarian are my favourite ones. Cheers!
  16. I'm not interested in either f18 nor f14, yet I understand that there is huge interest for them in this community. I believe that once released, they will be state of art products, yet to me they are X-wing and Y-wing respectively. However I wouldn't go on and bash their subforums with "sigh, can't you guys rather work on something else?! Perhaps something that's more to my taste?". What I'm trying to get across is that ultimately I'm more surprised not by CE2 announcement itself, but by the reaction and backlash from a lot of people here. You know you can spend your time better than throwing a tantrum. Rather hide your wallet, or something if you have worries. For months people probed M3, asking whether they are alive etc until they finally shared what they are working on... so this is it ("the super pooper excretionator" Rudel teased about), people just need to chill out, accept the reality and respect their decision (I'm sure they weighted carefully their options past the split and simpler project was expected - or some just refused to see it coming?). Instead of a couple words of encouragement during not easy times for M3 to get through I would safely assume, we get down to spin shitstorm instead? WTF seriously, reminds me of kindergarten at times!
  17. It will be GF still, but 12nm LP node this time. Ryzen 7 in february, ryzen 5 and 3 lines in march/april. With Vulkan api slowly dissolving the old closed circle(jerk) of intel-nvidia-microsoft, I would go for more cores and fat cache personally. Edit: Also there will be new mobos, new chipsets - supposedly to address some early caveats of 1st gen ryzens, promising higher clocks, stability and better memory support (again, higher clocks, tighter timings). We will see how it pans out, but honestly, I would say we can look for ~4.5ghz clocks perhaps across all cores. I don't think 5ghz and above will be possible, and if so, only on one core cluster, or 1-2 cores even (for oldschool singlethread stuff). Ryzen 3rd gen in 2019 should be 7nm node though, which is interesting too. Just my 2cents here.
  18. Yes I understand the sfm - pfm scale, just was wondering if anything changed sometime (I was away from DCS for a good while, and pretty much awaiting 2.5 merger tbh so the version chaos would go away). Before then, 3rd party was indeed efm where the dev team would state that their efm is e.g. close to pfm standard, or pretty much sfm with later delivery/update to afm or pfm standards as work on it progresses. But now I see them clearly labelled as afm mostly (razbam's modules, heatblur's viggen, M3' CE2, etc), so I was wondering whether they are using the closest common denominator now for greater clarity or it's really "only" afm. Some modules are not even labelled this way anymore, at least not on the store page. Thanks in any case and sorry for OT.
  19. I'm not sure whether you are serious or it's sarcasm, but to have some glider in dcs would be amazing. Long time ago, when we only had p51 and Dora in dcs ww2 stable, I said that one day I would love to see Me163 Komet and that was mostly for it's unique and dangerous/volatile propulsion and that it was a glider when returning home. If you flew gliders in the stock fsx, you know it has very little in common with the real thing (i don't want to trash its fm, weather effects/thermals and so on, it's old platform after all and one can't expect miracles - there are mods that help with it, but still...it is what it is). So one day, hopefully we would get something like Komet. -- Regarding CE2, I too was surprised with the announcement but aerobatic biplane is pretty neat addition imo. From what I understand, it's similar to Pitts Special and that thing is wild! We had one here at our airport and it was always a great joy to watch those figures in the air. Just the very thought to perhaps own something like this one day...dreams! My only wish regarding DCS CE2 would be that it would bring something extra to the table too, or added value if you will...be it aerobatic tutorial / campaign made by pros in the field (something like aerobatic school if you will), scoring system or grades, detailed study manual, etc. The potential is there imo and this module actually begs for it. Anyway, I wish best of luck & success to M3 with CE2! P.S. I've noticed that it mentions advanced flight model. Is there no longer external flight model? Or is is everything that is not ED's/Belsimtek's PFM automatically an AFM? Cheers!
  20. I agree, it's a good idea. Plus it would be great if the intercom was also fully modelled in plane, so you could talk with the person without using and setting up any 3rd party software. That's what I would call "smooth sailing" dcs demo/CE2 showcase.
  21. Well, just couple of days I posted this...but despite that I'm spectrum too,I honestly doubt that it's related. SR71 would be a shocker out of nowhere for sure and imo quite unlikely addition. There is Speccy game called Mig Busters, which was mentioned here earlier and it has mig25 on title screen as an enemy. But then again, there is also a game about mig29 and so on. Ahh such a riddle this is! And as always, I suspect we are being masterfully trolled :prop:
  22. That's an epic teaser! Love ZX Spectrum computer...those were the days! (backed a kickstarter of Spectrum Next earlier this year too). Just don't ask me to figure out which aircraft is on the loading splash screen :P (used to print those out with a line printer holding a pen back in the day). Edit: Rudel or someone, please...try to clean the head of your cassette player and try again, it might load the screen properly this time or at at least a bit further! :D
  23. I would love to fly Gee Bee! I remember as a kid, each time I saw the model kit of I-16 rata my grandfather assembled, I had a good laugh because of the proportions and kept wondering if it could fly at all. But then, I was introduced to Gee Bee (or bee-gees as I called it) and witnessing it alone blew my socks off for good! :D
  24. Yea bitmeister, I was mostly replying to a couple of above posts which mention in-game memory usage counter and what it does. I use mostly gpushark in advanced mode, when in need for something lightweight to check usage/clocks/memorycontroller/etc of a gpu (or nvinspector or gpuZ) or just aida64 when I need the full system monitoring suite to go into finer details.
  25. XF-85 looks good to me... has to be a pretty wild ride. I would imagine that you sit on the engine itself, with your legs at its sides. Rodeo style! :D That would be epic...
