garyn123 Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 Hi All, I'm looking to buy a monitor for DCS use. I'm not sure if 4K (16:9, 3840 x 2160) or Ultra wide (21:9, 3440 x 1440) resolution would be best. Your thoughts? Thanks! Gary
cichlidfan Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 Ultrawide is fine for a racing sim, but for DCS I would go with 4k, without question. You spend as much time looking up and down as you do left to right. IMHO. ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero, i7-6700K, Noctua NH-D14 Cooler, Crucial 32GB DDR4 2133, Samsung 950 Pro NVMe 256GB, Samsung EVO 250GB & 500GB SSD, 2TB Caviar Black, Zotac GTX 1080 AMP! Extreme 8GB, Corsair HX1000i, Phillips BDM4065UC 40" 4k monitor, VX2258 TouchScreen, TIR 5 w/ProClip, TM Warthog, VKB Gladiator Pro, Saitek X56, et. al., MFG Crosswind Pedals #1199, VolairSim Pit, Rift CV1
Demon_ Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 (edited) Agree. Except if you don't know how to fight and only turn right and left. Edited February 26, 2016 by Demon_ Attache ta tuque avec d'la broche.
razo+r Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 Just as a side note Real 4k is much more expensive than normal UHD, also know as 4k, but is a bit smaller than real 4k For DCS, as long as you have a great GPU, 4k is ok, but you don't really need it, because you probably need an SLI GPU, so go better for 1440p, normal 16:9 with 144hz and you're good to go
SharpeXB Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 4K/UHD in flight sims is incredible. I'd go for that vs 21:9 i9-14900KS | ASUS ROG MAXIMUS Z790 HERO | 64GB DDR5 5600MHz | iCUE H150i Liquid CPU Cooler | ASUS TUF GeForce RTX 4090 OC | Windows 11 Home | 2TB Samsung 980 PRO NVMe | Corsair RM1000x | LG 48GQ900-B 4K OLED Monitor | CH Fighterstick | Ch Pro Throttle | CH Pro Pedals | TrackIR 5

Both are the same vertical resolution. There are not too many PC monitors available in 4K. UHD is much more common, especially in TVs i9-14900KS | ASUS ROG MAXIMUS Z790 HERO | 64GB DDR5 5600MHz | iCUE H150i Liquid CPU Cooler | ASUS TUF GeForce RTX 4090 OC | Windows 11 Home | 2TB Samsung 980 PRO NVMe | Corsair RM1000x | LG 48GQ900-B 4K OLED Monitor | CH Fighterstick | Ch Pro Throttle | CH Pro Pedals | TrackIR 5
risse Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 I have been thinking to get a 32" display with 2560x1440 resolution. It would give a nice increase in viewable area from my current 24" display and the amount of pixels would not need the most expensive gpu on the market. Also, they come in the price range of ~500 EUR.
