Hey guys,

I made my account just to ask this question.

Picture this: In a heated dogfight with a P-51 ducking and diving everywhere, hes on your tail and you need the advantage, MW-50 goes on and you pull away, back around and the tables have turned. Your on his tail now and he decides to go into a straight vertical climb to try and get you to stall first, you don't. Pulling up on him with MW-50 on you get those critical shots into him, destroying him. But it's too late, you stall as you finish your salvo and start rolling and spinning uncontrollably. Dropping throttle to idle and putting the first stage of flaps out gets you back under control and into a dive that you proceed to pull out of, easy done.

But here's the question: Right after I pull out of the dive, my engine splutters and eventually dies totally (or it just totally stops instantly), no RPM on the gauge and then it just abruptly stops. Why does that happen?? Is it shock heating/cooling? Fuel stops flowing right? I am totally stumped, if you guys know whats up and have the solution I'd love to hear. Also if there's a way to restart your engine once it happens. I try turning it all off and going through the standard start-up procedure (if i have time) but its to no avail.

I will try to get you any details you need.

Thanks heaps!! :helpsmilie::helpsmilie:

1) Do you have random failures on ?

2) Are you using a reduced fuel load ( say 50 % or less in the Load menu ), because MW50 is now loaded proportionally to the amount of fuel loaded, and if you run out of it and are still using "boost" power settings, you will kill your engine sooner or latter...

3) And... there is always a time limit ( it's stated on the 190 Manual, but I do not recall it right now... ) in minutes to use those top power settings ( continuously )...

Could be that the spin interrupted your fuel flow due to negative Gs.

MW-50 could be used for very long time (10min at a time) which shouldn't be an issue here as digfights usually last less. Still if you're flying slow with MW-50 the engine might still overheat quickly.

As you said it splutters I'd rather believe the former becaue and overheated engine will seize rapidly.

Btw: There are 2 vertically arranged lamps in the lower right corner of the front panel. One saying "Vorn" and the other "Hinten". Those light up whenever the fuel flow from one of the fuel tanks is interruped.

You can use MW50 for ten minutes, that's right. But be careful, you have to maintain enough speed for cooling anyway. Watch you coolant temp, it should be always around 100°C.

There is likley no fuilure thats your engine survive, in the most cases it's simpley dead.

Flying MW50 emergency power wit no MW50 left in the tank kill's your engine very fast, have an eye on your MW50 pressure gauge.

And as Jcomm metioned climbing with full power vertical with afterwards a stall, it's also a overkill the cooling air stops flowing throug the radiator.

Keep an eye on your Temperatur, but in that case is the dora one of easiest birds, kill the mustang engine bye far not so hard :)

Thanks heaps guys. So should my engine splutter and eventually die, what is the correct process to restart my engine?

It's not really possible to restart the engine in the air but incase of fuel starvation it can be enouht to dive with some throttle opening so the engine gets cranked over by the prop and ignition may put it back in action.

If it completely stops it's seized which is a death sentence.

You shouldn't need flaps to recover from a stall in the Dora. Simply release the stick and let it fall for a quick recovery. As others have said .. you need to maintain your speed or the engine will overheat and maneuvers such as turning or climbing are the reason your overheating. I always would manually open the radiators for a few seconds when entering a turning fight or before I reduced throttle with MW50 turned on.
