Ala12Rv-watermanpc Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 Just curious about it...in sec 27 you can see a very noticeable vapour/smoke inside cockpit behind hud which gets even more noticeable at some other points in the video to the point it conpletely blocks hud visibility ...whats that?? Vampyre Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 Air conditioning. Truly superior pilots are those that use their superior judgment to avoid those situations where they might have to use their superior skills. If you ever find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck! "If at first you don't succeed, Carrier Landings are not for you!"

Basically water vapor. In the F-16 (IIRC) the Environmental Control System (ECS) cool the air by getting 13 stage (in PW F-16, 7 in GE) bleed air form the engine compressing it and expanding it quickly. If the air is to humid, the system has trouble taking all the humidity out, generally speaking. Also, the filter, commonly known as the "Sock" might be dirty. Ala12Rv-watermanpc Posted March 11, 2016 Author Posted March 11, 2016 (edited) Thanks guys, so air conditioner then...I though it should be that, but as I said, its quite disturbing at some moments...what if that happens in a dogfight???...curious...look at 9:40 sec, wtf??:D Edited March 11, 2016 by watermanpc Take a look at my MODS here

This is wrong, bleed air moved a turbine and PW it 7th and 13th stage compress air (GE are 5 and 9) ..what if that happens in a dogfight???...curious...look at 9:40 sec, wtf??:D It should not happen at higher altitude and speeds, but if it does you just got bad luck AFAIK. Milli Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 Does this happen to other types of jets other than F-16's? Seems ridiculous that this happens. The above crash at the airshow is beyond belief. Thats an expensive, advanced modern jet fighter, crashing because of a steamed up window.

Seriously guys?¿?¿?¿...I cant believe it...an enginering marvel as the f16 can go to hell just because you got bad luck and all the cockpit was filled with vapour mist from the air conditioner system?¿?¿? Wtf?¿?¿?¿...but of course, seeing how bad it can be in the 9:40 sec, I have no doubt it can be really dangerous, specially low level fast flying  Take a look at my MODS here

mvsgas Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 (edited) Just wanted to mention, this rarely happens. I worked on F-16C block 40/42 from 1997 to 2004 and from 2008 to 2012 and I seldom saw this. I'm not sure the specific conditions for this to happen but is definitely not common. Even in places like Korea, where it is very humid all the time this did not happen every flight. Also note how it happens mostly at idle power and/or low speed.
