Hey guys. I finally got a computer to handle this game. I got an X55 and some rudder pedals, ready to fly, but I'm still grounded. I first noticed problems when I was trying to set up rotary one as zoom. I programmed it through the profiler so I can have three profiles for what I am doing in the air. Its weird though it won't zoom in the game but if I go to the controls menu in the game and spin the dial it goes to the command I want. The same thing happens with the throttle. Also when I am in the air and throttle up my plane does a barrel roll. Is this normal? I'm thinking about talking to support, but I just want to make sure its not user error first. Also ghost buttons are rampant especially associated with rotary one. I was trying to find the TS menu and switch it to keyboard and mouse like another thread suggested but I couldn't find where they were talking about.

Thanks for the help.

Are you using TrackIR or some kind of alternative? If so..check and make sure it's z axis is not bound to the zoom function you're trying to use your rotary for. If TrackIR + axis is bound to zoom it just won't work.. you can instead assign the trackir or freetrack z axis to the missing bind for head movement forward near the rest of the trackir axes in the control setup (manually select trackir z axis).

As far as you plane doing a barrel roll, try unplugging and replugging in your controller, and running calibration. I mean.. I've to adjust roll trim after launching off some payload but.. even flying a p-51 with it's prop torque I haven't flown a plane that will just barrel roll on its own once in the air. If it's just a slight roll and not a barrel roll as you put it -

verify your stick stays centered in windows game controller options or DCS axis tune and adjust aileron trim.. If it's not staying centered, and calibration and reinstalling your saitek drivers doesn't solve the issue.. contact saitek and get your stick replaced.

Alternatively - make sure there aren't any non-existent axes bound. DCS likes to bind a Z axis to my Warthog stick and it doesn't have a Z axis.. if I don't catch it before flying a module for the first time my rudder stays on full left and sends me spinning the moment I try to taxi to a runway.

Just wanted to add if you have any other controllers other than what you intend to fly with, either unplug them, or make sure their axes aren't bound in the axis config for every individual plane you fly in DCS World options.

This probably should've been my first recommendation.

no trackir. I got on youtube and reviewed some programming videos. it helped a little bit. then i redownloaded the drivers and it went south, and by it I mean the plane. Uncontrollable. I e-mailed Saitek. Shouldda went with the warthog.

shut down the saitek profiler, go into the axis menu in DCS, and clear out everything for all devices in the in-game axis menu, and just map pitch, roll, rudder, and throttle, and see if it works, then, only if you can fly properly, add zoom axis and whatever other axis after...

make sure you completely clear out everything but trackIR (if you have it) in the axis menu.

the saitek profiler works, but it's best to use it to add extra functions, not as the primary method of binding buttons in dcs.

if there's lots of ghosting, there's a chance your throttle isn't getting enough power, and you might try a different usb controller on your motherboard, or a powered (plugged into the wall socket, not just usb port) usb hub.

also, i've heard windows 10 and the saitek profiler don't get along well... and depending on what plane you're in, it will roll if you stall it, or because of engine torque.

Thanks hadwell and tom. I will try clearing out and setting axes in dcs. I am flying the a-10 it shouldn't have that torque effect like one would get at high power and high angles of attack in a p-51. Also I am running the hotas through a powered usb.

Your axis settings in DCS should look like this. You probably have same axis assigned as Throttle axis and Roll axis. Also, try plugging your powered hub to USB 2.0 port (even if your powered hub is 3.0) to avoid ghosting

Get rid of it. X55 is garbage with capital POS. Get rid of it, before you build up muscle memory and have to retrain your hands for something better, like Waryhog HOTAS or CH products.

X55 is the worst of expensive HOTAS setups. The stick ergonomics are crap , crap, crap, when under pitch and roll deflection my thumb cannot reach the buttons on top. The 8 way switches on throttle interfere with each other, they are too close. The worst is Z rot (rudder). The rudder rotator sticks, and movement is jerky. Youu can take it apaert and lube it up and down, it won't work. SAITEK killed this product. Its the worst of everything.
