Tail rotor perhaps... Not bad landing though, dropped the collective fast.

HP G2 Reverb (Needs upgrading), Windows 10 VR settings: IPD is 64.5mm, High image quality, G2 reset to 60Hz refresh rate. set to OpenXR, but Open XR tool kit disabled.

DCS: Pixel Density 1.0, Forced IPD at 55 (perceived world size), DLSS setting is quality at 1.0. VR Driver system: I9-9900KS 5Ghz CPU. XI Hero motherboard and RTX 3090 graphics card, 64 gigs Ram, No OC... Everything needs upgrading in this system!.

Vaicom user and what a superb freebie it is! Virpil Mongoose T50M3 base & Mongoose CM2 Grip (not set for dead stick), Virpil TCS collective with counterbalance kit (woof woof). Virpil Apache Grip (OMG). MFG pedals with damper upgrade. Total controls Apache MPDs set to virtual Reality height. Simshaker Jet Pro vibration seat.. Uses data from DCS not sound... goodbye VRS.

Luckily all the crew survived. If that was me in game, I would bank out of the turn in order to lose height. Is that the correct move?

I reckon that's a nasty one in any ones book and the pilot did it just right.

Not sure if I could have put her down so solid and sweet in such a short time (in sim let alone real life).

Generally, you'll be in one of two situations:

 

1) If you lose the tail in forward flight you enter autorotation and roll off the throttle for a power off landing.

2) If it happens in the hover, roll off the throttle and raise the collective before impact.

 

The trick is to fly so you've got speed and height for option 1 or be close to the ground for option 2, and minimise the time spent between these two conditions. This is why helicopters, even though they theoritcally can fly just about any profile, have suggested profiles for departure/takeoff and arrival/landing.

 

Sometimes there will be operational reasons for flying outside of these profiles, which would appear to be the case in the video. Hovering at the hight they are isn't advisable if you can avoid it as it really limits your options.

Looks like it, you can see @:25 on it's final turn before it hits the deck that the tail rotor has stopped while the main keeps spinning.

 

It didn't stop its just that, that the belsimtek didn't animate tail rotor all the way :(
