Hi, I am fairly new to A10-C and am getting frustrated with the weapons that use optical

seekers for targeting. I set SOI to SPI try to lock on the target and many times before I can

get a lock, I get a GIMBAL LIMIT message.

What are the actual limits? Is there a diagram anywhere that shows where these weapons

can see in relation to the plane?

What is the best way to approach a target that allows the seekers to see the target? If

I have weapons with seekers under each wing is there a way to switch in order for the other

side to acquire the target? Thanks

There is Gimbal Limit on the AGM-65 at around 30° AFAIK.

So think of it as the seeker of the Mav would be your eyeball. It just can turn a certain amount untill it reaches its Gimbal limit. Same with the Mav.

Modules: Well... all of 'em

You gotta face the music if you wanna dance. In other words, point your aircraft to where you wanna shoot stuff to.

The Mavericks have a 10 degree cone around the longitudinal axis of the weapon and a 15 degrees down rectangle. If u notice the botton crosshairs line has three dashes that indicate 5, 10 and 15 degress down from centerline. So, in order to achieve a good lock u need to place the tgt inside that "Keyhole".

CCD equipped Mavericks have shorter locking ranges than one would expect, at least in the sim: use -Ds.

Also, one of the latest updates implemented the keyhole concept Kimi_uy mentioned.

One of the best ways to address your issue is to use the TGP first.

Find your target.

TMS Up Short so you get "Point" track.

TMS Up Long to set it as SPI.

Switch right MFD to maverick and set it to SOI

China Hat forward long to slew all sensors (including maverick) to your SPI

Get yourself in position and turn directly towards the target.

You should see the circular maverick 'sight' over the target, sometimes it takes a few seconds to slew over.

Repeatedly press TMS up short to "Lock" the maverick.

Fire once locked.
