hi. I wish to buy a new 4K 40 inch TV for DCS black shark 2.

how is the response time of such a TV ?

is there anything else I should think about concerning big TV screens ?

is it acceptable for gaming?

should I go for a dedicated PC screen ( 27 inch ) ?

any info from gamers with 4K big TV screens welcome.

thanks.

......if you decide on a tv, also look at imput lag.....most makers dont want to show this due to the large lag number......having said that, a few have reduced the lag somewhat......here is a site that may help....

I would not go with a TV but with Gsync as it is almost a garanty for stutter and jitter free gaming.

Asus has a few of them, Gsync and FreeSync based, from 1080p, 1440p and 2160p-4k, TN and IPS panels. Pick one that fits you ;)

I am real happy with mine and Gsync, best visual experience ever since Voodoo cards !

I have the BDM4065UC also and it is OK for Video and flight sim. I would not buy this screen if I were playing a shooter game, then there is much better choices. But for normal flight sim it is fine and LARGE :joystick:

That link is a good explanation input lag in general.

Yeah, sure, like HiJack already said. I really like it. I cannot recommend faster modes than "fast" because then you can see the ghosting. For its size, IMO its pretty good and worth the price. For shooters there are faster ones, but mostly smaller. Gsync is very nice, saw it at a friends place. It was an 27" Asus. For shooters i would recommend something like that. You can clearly see the difference already on the desktop while moving the mouse, its cool ;)

I am also probably going to get the Phillips for my pit. I don't do anything but flight sims with it so it should be an excellent upgrade from my current 40" display.

When you get it, the first thing you should do is to set DisplayPort Mode to 1.2. Mine was set to the old standard with 30FPS- took me an hour to figure out why this was the case... :D

Awesome! Im glad to hear it, as I was planning on getting one too.

Im not sure I follow you here. Do you mean there are modes in the monitor settings? Maybe that's a dumb question. (Clearly not an expert here. :))

Yes, its called "smartresponse" located in the monitor settings. You can leave it turned off, fast, faster or fastest... But while the response time gets smaller, ghosting gets worse. ;)

Usually, the more modes/options you have the more you can mess it up :)

If you leave ALL THOSE OPTIONS activated that you payed for, you will likely not have a nice gaming experience. If you turn them down the response is faster but the picture quality suffers.

It's a trade you have to make for using a TV as a PC monitor.

BTW, Asus has a nice 37" Gsynced 4k IPS "GAMING MONITOR"...... that wont need to be forced into modes your eyes dont like ;)

Thanks BitMaster!

In my case, the 40'' screen referenced is the Philips 4065UC, which is a monitor. I decided against going the TV route based on what I had read elsewhere.

Just be aware of the fact that you need a powerful GPU (or two in SLI) to run 4K in Maxed out DCS settings! I have one AMD GPU and I run all maxed out fairly good but some tearing if moving head to fast, it does not bother me that much.

most 4Ks are iffy for gaming. look for a monitors that is under 10ms response time and supports display port@60fps

If it is only HDMI then it is only 30FPS and not all 4ks can run the Display port mode that allows 60fps so read carefully.

HDMI 2.0 supports 4k at 60Hz.
