rickberry49 Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 (edited) I've FINALLY COMPLETED the Ground Handling Practice Mission in the BFT Missions collection. Got a GOOD JOB CADET, you are ready for your check ride... Then after a minute or so, I was still sitting on the ramp making notes... and I got the message "You did poorly cadet" (one I got many times...prior to my successful completion) and said I needed more practice...?? The Instructor is not a nice guy, really picky but I did complete the mission successfully and he said so... But... When I restart the BFT mission I would expect to see the next Mission or the actual CHECK RIDE mission mentioned at the end of the practice, but instead I get the same training practice mission. I can look at the training dir under campaigns and there are 2 files for Ground Handling: A-10C - BFT01 Ground Handling.miz < this i assume is the check ride A-10C - BFT01 Practice Ground Handling.miz < this i assume is the practice What am I missing...? can't find anything in the briefing on how to proceed after success in the previous mission. Great JOB on the mission program, but how do we continue to next mission???? Is this something I should direct to the author of the mission? Edited April 28, 2016 by rickberry49
Remarkymarkable Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 I never did any of the practice missions, there weren't any when I bought the BFT missions. I made it as far as advanced maneuvers and had to give it up. I don't have any rudder controls which made things difficult. Good luck
Blech Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 Hi, Even in the practice-part you have to be fit Read this http://tlaschuk.github.io/help Have a look at the playlist DCS-A10c-Basic Flight Training Qualification for the practice part https://www.youtube.com/user/reconstewart/playlists

Unfortunately the practice missions didn't make the initial release but were added in later update. This forum thread explains how you can update your logbook to pick the next mission if it fails to progress properly. If the FE is giving you messages you don't expect ensure you have updated your video card graphics. Some users have reported issues with the triggers that were fixed once they updated. Remarkymarkable Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 Sabre TLA; is there any way I can get the practice missions?
Sabre-TLA Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 They should have downloaded with the last DCS World 1.5 update. What version of DCS World 1.5 are you running? MapleFlagMissions - Read Our Blog for Updates
rickberry49 Posted April 29, 2016 Author Posted April 29, 2016 The BFT came with my purchase of A10, now running 1.5.3.52478 (took a while to find the itty bitty text in the far right bottom corner...) Should be in the settings GUI or somewhere prominant. In any case it all works fine, took several tries to get thru it completely but when I finally got the final PASSING grade after a minute or so the voice came back on and said I failed...? I think there is a bug in the BFT campaign (I could be wrong) or else he just got used to me failing and failed me again ( even after he gave me a PASSING GRADE). I'll look into the info you gave me and see if that helps to move on in the training.... Stay tuned...!! Happy hunting...!!!
rickberry49 Posted April 29, 2016 Author Posted April 29, 2016 Here is my current condition Here is my GUI for the Campaigns... see attached After selecting basic flight the next window is the same one I passed. Should it continue to the next lesson??? I can access the training MIZ's by using the folder paths but I should think the campaign should present the next lesson once I passed the previous.. (not withstanding the bug where he says I PASSED then a bit later says I did poorly and need more practice... I'll move on with manual selection of the next mission (since I did pass) but perhaps a fix is in order..? Thanks so much for replying to us newbees...!!!:smilewink:
rickberry49 Posted April 29, 2016 Author Posted April 29, 2016 You don't have to tell me... but the issue is.... I PASSED at the final shutdown but then a minute later before I had a chance to exit the mission the instuctor came back on and said I did POORLY (something I did here many times before) but Once you get a PASSING grade I don't expect the next communication (still in the end of the mission) to say I did POORLY... there is a bug in the program I just wanted to let someone know... Unless I should exit the mission immediately after he says I PASSED... but that is pretty dumb...
rickberry49 Posted April 29, 2016 Author Posted April 29, 2016 Video exactly what I did except.... Watched the video... exactly same as what I did except my first present mission from the menu was the PRACTICE MISSION...!!! I completed it successfully and got the PASSING grade but then he came back on and said I did POORLY... STILL IN THE END OF THE MISSION??? When I come back to the BFT campaign I keep getting the PRACTICE MISSION PRESENTED I can't get to the actual qual mission thru the main menu... or any other missions for that matter. see attached...

Unless I should exit the mission immediately after he says I PASSED... but that is pretty dumb... We can try and reproduce the issue as we never saw that in testing. There is one flag that is used to determine the UNQUAL rating so on your system somehow that is being set after you have completed the mission. If you check your score, anything greater than 50 (like 75 or 100) will advance to the next mission. A score of 50 will keep you in the same mission. Since the mission gave you an UNQUAL the score was changed back to 50 and you have to repeat the mission again (or use the logbook edits to skip it). EDIT: Reproduced (there was a timeout trigger that fired at 32 mins into the mission). It has been removed and should be corrected in the next update from ED as part of this fix. Recommendation for now is to stop the mission (hit ESC) as soon as you get your rating. Edited April 30, 2016 by Sabre-TLA MapleFlagMissions - Read Our Blog for Updates
rickberry49 Posted April 29, 2016 Author Posted April 29, 2016 Log book fix in above thread appears to allow me now to proceed with next mission. I made it the actual Ground Handling mission (not the practice). We'll see what happens (if and when) I pass that one...!!! The manual fix to the log book worked but I still think there is bug in the program, or else something got corrupted in my log book (don't know how) but in any case we will press on...!!! Stay tuned...
Remarkymarkable Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 I'm running 1.5.3.52478, I go into campaigns and there is the BFT qualification missions but, no practice missions for the qualifications.

Remarkymarkable Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 (edited) I guess I got the practice campaign without realizing it; I entered the BFT Qualification Campaign and was thrown into the Practice Flight pattern mission, which I already qualified for. The next step in my quals should be Advanced Maneuvers. Also, when I do go into the practice flight pattern mission, I am in the air when I start the mission, shouldn't I be at the ramp? rickberry49 Posted April 29, 2016 Author Posted April 29, 2016 got it fixed with the edit on the log book..!!! Just passed the ground handling and at the end I just quit... Next mission came up Take OFF so I guess it's fixed... Cool program... but I'm still trying to figure out how to comm with the Instructor... we have the Batumi freq for the ATC but 251 UHF did not seem to yield a response... Pretty sure I have the radio tuned and using L alt + num - to call but all I get on comms is the ATC list and opt for startup?? Will try again and see what happens.. Instructor needs to be a little more compassionate when he tells me I forgot to turn off the Pitot heat and fails me... I was a flight Deck Trouble shooter and plane captain in the Navy in VF143 F-4J's BIG E... they never shut off all the crap they were supposed to...!!! Fun anyway....!!! Happy Hunting...

The next step in my quals should be Advanced Maneuvers. Also, when I do go into the practice flight pattern mission, I am in the air when I start the mission, shouldn't I be at the ramp? When the practice missions were inserted into the campaign it bumped the existing qual missions into a different mission slot. Hence the instructions on how to change the logbook so you wouldn't have to redo missions you already qual'd for. The mission briefing should indicate if it's an in-air start or from the runway or ramp. When we were developing the practice missions we got feedback that users preferred to start either in-air or from the runway so they wouldn't have to redo the start-up sequence every time. All the qual missions though are ramp to ramp. MapleFlagMissions - Read Our Blog for Updates

I agree rick, I ran boats for the state for over 22 years. At the end of patrol, we just turned off the battery switches. Next time you got on the boat, turn the switches back on and all of the electronics, radios etc. were good to go. Although failing to turn off pitot heat on a plane could damage things maybe? I don't know, I have no experience with planes in the real world.

The instructor messages are voice overs triggered by various actions during the mission. The only comms currently are F10-F1 - "1, COPY!" to indicate you heard him. In our later missions in the series (Tactical Qualification) this gets expanded so you can call G-Awareness tests, Fence In and Out, Range Check In and Out and other items. Yes we debated how stringent to make the pass / fail criteria so in the end we decided to make the FE a mean sob who will fail you at the simplest infraction. You will learn very quickly and never forget a switch setting after playing for an hour and he calls you out on one that you missed. The pitot heat one has hit nearly everyone at some point. The instructor is both surly and discouraging. I was really psyched to go thru the Basic training. His attitude and demeanor really ruined the learning process for me. There are good teachers and bad ones. This one stinks. I will never purchase anymore of this type of training. I have found others that are more positive and supportive in their communication styles. And have learned a lot from them. You guys missed the boat on this one. Edited December 3, 2017 by lasvideo Win 10 I7 6700K @ 4.0 GHZ. 16 gig memory GTX 1070 SSD
Sabre-TLA Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 Sorry you feel that way. These campaigns are Qualification campaigns so they are testing your knowledge and abilities. If you were expecting hand holding then these are not for you. Maybe with more practice you would have more success. MapleFlagMissions - Read Our Blog for Updates
Grizzly Vzla Posted December 4, 2017 Posted December 4, 2017 I purchase this campaing and dont regret! the way that the FE pushes to the limit of knowledge of the aircraft and procedures its perfect! that make me a better virtual hog pilot...thanks
Emuyen Posted December 4, 2017 Posted December 4, 2017 I purchase this campaing and dont regret! the way that the FE pushes to the limit of knowledge of the aircraft and procedures its perfect! that make me a better virtual hog pilot...thanks Same here. Looking forward for more Maple Flag Campaigns. It's hard for sure. It's not to teach but to test. When I didn't understand what I was doing I read the manual or watched youtube tutorial vids. And... in Basic Quali you are a greenhorn and the simpathy has to be earned! In TTQ Instructor Saber has a hilarious mood (VIZIANI! GOOS JET READY TO TAXI. VIZIANI COLT 1-2 WHEELS UP. WOOOHOOO! ) Unless you shoot down the JTAC or leave the range without permission... then he gets angry (and for some traumatizing...) :pilotfly:
Grizzly Vzla Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 you hit the point! not to teach but to test! however a learn a lot
