Tomahawk674 Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 Hello all, I am having the hardest time with Mission #16 from "last chance" Mig-29 campaign. I have flown it over and over, destroying all enemy planes, and checking that I haven't lost any of my own, yet, when I bring up the goals, group 2 says 100 complete, but group 1 says 0, so I get partial sucess. What am I missing? Thanks... 1
hitman Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 I sometimes have trouble understanding the parameters of completing a mission, hopefully you fully understand what your objectives are. I hope someone can get the idea here that there is something that makes life easy when describing a current situation, instead of making a story up. Definition: "SMEAC" Pronounced "SmeeAck" Situation, Mission, Execution, Admin & Logistic, Command & Signal (Five Paragraph Order). Say the baltics were being invaded by George Cloonytunes hell bent on world domination. The 5 paragraph order goes as follows: Situation: George Clooney fan club runs amok in the Baltics. Mission: Kill them all with napalm and cluster bombs. Execution: Use your A-10 and load it up with raid bugspray and mustard gas, come in from West by NorthWest heading East by NorthEast, and drop everything on 1035 hrs. Admin and logistics-Doesnt apply to gaming. Command and Signal: Gives you radio frequency for command/awacs-doesnt apply to online. But one catches the drift.
Tomahawk674 Posted August 26, 2006 Author Posted August 26, 2006 Is there a way I can find out what is the exact goal by opening the campaign through the mission editor? The mission just says I have to protect my planes that will go do some ground attacks. I do save them all, and they do bomb their targets. I shoot down the planes that come to intercept them. If I could find out what needs to be done to move on, that would help.
weasel75 Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 AFAIK there is some tool to extract the single missions from a campaign. (Link?! :( ) Then you would need to open that mission in the Editor and check the goals. IIRC that is the "crosshair"-button on the left side. It should show the goals. For a better first overview, switch to "List"-View of the goals. You can click the single goals (either DESTROY/SURVIVE-type) and click "Show". That should select the group connected with that goal. Mhmm.. hope I wrote no nonsense .. can not check - have no LockOn under Linux ;) basic for translators ...
Ironhand Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 Is there a way I can find out what is the exact goal by opening the campaign through the mission editor? The mission just says I have to protect my planes that will go do some ground attacks. I do save them all, and they do bomb their targets. I shoot down the planes that come to intercept them. If I could find out what needs to be done to move on, that would help. No special tools needed. If it's a stock campaign, load it into the Mission Editor, press the CTRL-SHIFT-D key combination and type the password eagle into the box. Click OKAY. You will now have access to all the missions in the campaign. Select the mission you want--in this case "#16, Escort of the Attack Group". To check the goals, look at the Objects menu on the left side of the screen. The icon at the bottom of the list looks like a targeting reticle--it's just below the tank car representing static objects. Click it. This opens the Objectives dialogue box on the right hand side of the screen. For this mission you will see that Objective #1 is to destroy the USN E-2C. If you look, this one is visible on the map. Objective #2 is merely described as R01. Not very helpful, I know, especially since it's hidden on the map. So you don't know what it is. It's actually a GAI flight of 2 Su-27s that will launch out of Belbek. Their start time is 06:31:03. How do I know? You need to make hidden objects appear. Click on the Map Mode icon (looks like binoculars). Set the switch to SATELLITE. Look at the bottom of the dialogue box for the List of Hidden Units button. Turn it on. In the box that opens, find "R01". It's listed as "Hidden". Click the SHOW button to make it visible. Now you can find it on the map and check it. BTW, I covered most of this stuff in my "Getting Started--Part 1" video. If any of you haven't seen it, you might want to download and watch it. I'm told that it makes using the Editor a bit easier. Anyway, back to the mission. My guess is that this GAI flight is not launching for some reason--perhaps you're not getting close enough?
