No I am not proud of the Apache.
Don't be so hard on the designers of the Apache. ;) After all it was made for killing tanks at the Fulda Gap, not expeditionary warfare like the Cobra.

I didnt mean to imply

Sorry, my misunderstanding. As someone else said, I guess people are just getting ready for Black Shark by posting some cool attack helo pics. :)

No I am not proud of the Apache. I HATE that POS. I dont care what anyone else says about it. If sand can gum up the FLIR lens and keep the tracking pod from designating specific targets then I think that the engineers are dumb enough not to think about silicone in a squeeze tube (Not thats how it happens). You dont ever hear about Marines getting hit by Cobras, and if you do its not quite as much as one has heard over the Apache.

Wow I didn't saw that comming!

I dont blame the engineers I blame the equipment. And the Cobra does the same exact job as the Apache, even if the mission it was designed for were different from what they are today, 30 years ago. Besides, its not just the fault of the equipment for blue on blue but the idiots flying the things. I see a lot of them around these parts and man...I wont go there.

Blue on blue happens for a variety of reasons, its not always the fault of the pilot. Many times there are COMs failures in a fight which can even be caused by the presence of overhead powerlines. Now the whole damn network is going more digital, and we all know how well cel phones work. Yikes!!!

Hitman, were you in the Marine Core?

Yeah but the event I refer to all kinds of things happened, such as: Nav was outdated or inoperative, the FLIR didnt designate the taret and a Hellfire shot was wasted, the gun jammed after 3 rounds, and the commander of the lead flight wasnt even supposed to be flying due to commanders fatigue. Oh yeah and the commander didnt double check the coordinates of the FEBA.

Yup...things went wrong and Marines died. My deepest sympathies to them and their families. War is never perfect and inter-service coordination is a problem. I know that they're all operating from different playbooks. My bro HATES the friggin' Army, he says they haven't got a clue about fighting a war. I tend to agree with him, although the Army is probably just fine in their element, but this war ain't it. No offense to any Army vets here, its just that the Army and Marines have completely different views on fighting a war...and until they meet in the middle...fratricide is going to be a HUGE problem...no matter how advanced the sensors and COMs get.

How to react to an ambush is a good place to start. Marines immediately, if they are able, try to get themselves and their vehicles out of the kill zone and into cover. The Army just stops and tries to return fire from the kill zone. Not a particularly smart tactic. ;)

The Marines mission is to take the ground for the Army to hold it. Todays soldier isnt trained well enough to hold that ground, instead of relying on their technology. The Marines do it better with much less than the Army does.

A good example is Montezuma. Marines secure the halls of Montezuma while waiting on the Army to show up.

Heres the link for that reference.
