Problem about the windows switch after running DCS Openbeta or DCS 2 Openalpha

Recommended Posts

My laptop's OS is Win10. Usually, if I click any icon on the taskbar, the window of that program or folder should jump to the front of all of the windows. But everytime after running the DCS, no matter the released version or openbeta or openalpha and no matter I keep the DCS on or off, the windows switching of the operating system become abnormal. The window I choose can not go to the front of the desktop after I click this window's icon on the taskbar. If I want to see the window, I need to minimize all windows cover in front of that windows. I set the taskbar to auto-hiding, after running DCS, when I move the arrow to the bottom of screen, the taskbar can't show up if there is a maximum window. If I want everything back to normal I need to restart my laptop.

I have been bothered by this problem for a long time. This is not a big problem, but I just can't find a way to solve it. I have tried to re-install DCS, but this problem is still there. Hope somebody on the forum can give me a help.

Hi ACEJohnLu

do you have full screen ticked in options?

and is dcs at the same resolution as your desktop?

Yes, I ticked the full screen in options and the resolution is same as the desktop.

And actually, After using the LAlt+Tab switching to other program from DCS, when I click the DCS's icon on the taskbar or LAlt+Tab switch back to DCS the DCS will be covered by other program. I need to use the RAlt+Enter to make the DCS into the real fullscreen.

correct, use RALT+Enter for full screen

Yes I know that. But the problem is not about the fullscreen. After I turn off the DCS, other programs' window can not go to the front after I click the program. The sequence of windows on desktop is not correct.

I have noticed the same problem as well.

According to your topic. Your problem is caused by the DisplayFusion, but I don't have that kind of software.

I have a problem that I think is the same or similar, though on Windows 7 x64 instead.

When a mission starts, the DCS process loses its focus and puts itself in background, behind the task bar and possibly other windows.

It has been there in 2.0 for a few months, I even reported at some point that it was not possible to start/unpause the mission by pressing on the break/pause key unlike versions 1.5 and pre-1.5.

But this problem, that has now moved to 1.5 since the penultimate update I think (the beta release before 1.5.4.54316.106), was actually that lost of focus and not a keyboard issue.

It seems less invasive in my case, once the focus is back I can again switch between tasks and put windows normally in front. But it does look similar.

DCS is set as fullscreen and the settings haven't changed since before this issue appeared in 1.5 beta.

So you still not find a solution to this kind of problem?

No, the problem is still there, both in 1.5 and 2.0 (1.5.5.58642.188 and 2.0.3.57442.107). In 1.5 it's only in campaigns, not for alone missions.

Since then I had both versions re-installed from scratch, so I'm pretty sure it's not my installation, and it's 100% reproducible.

- start DCS

- select the campaign mission, press OK

=> losing the focus, DCS is putting itself in background (at least behind the task bar)

- get the focus back

- click START on the mission screen to load the mission

=> losing the focus again

Really annoying.

I'm bringing this problem back up because it's driving me nuts. Every time I finish using DCS it causes the window selection behavior in Windows 10 to change.

Not sure if the original poster explained it well enough but instead of clicking on a window and having it come up to the front and be the center of focus you have to click on it, then on the window in front of it and then back to it. It's highly annoying if you want to work with files or windows after a session of DCS.

Somebody else has to have this issue and if not what is the fix?

And yes it's been this way since 1.5 and all the way up to 2.5.2 Open Alpha which I'm using now.

What happens if you run DCS at full resolution Borderless Windowed Mode (aka Fullscreen Un-checked in game)?

Thanks for the reply.

I am already running in Fullscreen Un-checked mode. However when the sim launches I have to Alt-Enter into full screen to get my V-synch/G-synch to work.

One thing I do want to clarify is that this is causing the issues after the game is shut-down and continues until I re-boot windows.

i understand.. just racking my brain on what aspect of win10, nvidia, or DCS would be causing the conflict... is your in game resolution set to your actual display resolution of 1080p... or are you attempting to scale a different resolution to fullscreen?... if you are scaling resolution you could be causing a conflict with win10 display settings... also attempting to use nvidia DSR scaling can have similar effects.

No I'm using native resolution 1920x1080, so as far as I know there shouldn't be any type of scaling.

does your laptop have an iGpu in addition to the 980m?

no, the 980m is it.

what happens if you do not use Nvidia gsync or vsync settings and set refresh rate to 60hz, enable DCS in game vsync and run in Borderless windowed mode?

As before, it's not exactly the same problem with win7 but similar. There's a lot of focus switching back and forth when starting DCS, and starting a mission. I think it may partly depend on the DLC protection because it's not the same in free or stock campaigns as in paid campaigns, perhaps you could check if you see a different behaviour too.

Also, when starting the editor, some initial mouse clicks are ignored sometimes because the window is losing focus, and it flashes a few times before finally getting normal. It's really a bit erratic. I never saw that before 1.5 (except the older versions that had multiple executables for the menu and flight and which were glitching all over the place when launching a mission, but that's very long ago), it appeared in 1.5 and got worse in 2.0/2.5.

I've tried everything that was suggested , and maybe it does have something to do with DLC protection at this point. As you mentioned Redglyph it started in 1.5

Not sure what DCS could do to the windows operating system to cause it to lose focus.

It's a mystery. Since it's quite long to load the first time, sometimes I used to switch to a document to read, and DCS was reclaiming the focus every two seconds or so, this part of the code must have been WIP for a while. (I don't do that anymore, touching some keys on the keyboard apparently triggers a re-query of the licence keys so it's best not to touch anything, and wait patiently.)

I'd like to note that this is an issue I have encountered as well, Google Chrome and Steam suffer the most. I'm running the 2.5 Steam Beta myself. If I Alt Tab at anypoint this issue becomes apparent.
