That should no longer be an option.

Why? WHY? please explain why... no one has. It's a free DLC now and if it were integrated it would be part of the FREE base DCS game... no protection needed.

Because it would be wrong for ED to put it into a retail product after the community paid Starway. If ED wants to buy it now, they can send the money to those who donated to Starway, first.

A FREE retail product.... it would be no different than if every single DCS player just downloaded the mod. Besides it's not like ED are betraying Starway, they tried to make him a way to make money through their Module system but it didn't work. In this way the community essentially bought the DLC for ED AND themselves.... the biggest difference is that ED didnt get any profit out of it and starway got it all. (assuming that the original deal would have given some of the money to ED)

I don't care whether ED gives it away or not. They give DCS World away, but I am betting they don't tell their employees that they aren't getting paid this week because they worked on a free product, without which ED could not sell any of their products.

DCS World is not 'free' it is paid for through every module's sale.

Enhancing DCS World increases the potential sales for ED's products.

EXACTLY

-ED's sim looks better so they get increased sales

-Starway gets the donation money he asked for

-The players get a better map

Its a win, win, win, for a situation that originally looked pretty sad.

Unless Starway felt betrayed in which case i would hesitate.

If ED wanted their sim to look better via Starway's mod, they should have donated $3000 to him. That ship has sailed.

Starway has already received the donation money that he asked for, and I already have a better map. The only new winner is ED.

Wouldn't it be whatever Starway and ED agree on at this point going forward? Starway could say "Here ED you can now have this content and integrate it in DCSW for free. I got what I wanted out of it." The potential backlash may be with those that have donated . Personally I have no problem with ED having it and making it the new default. Also consider when we donated we gave freely with the mission to bring this content forward to the community even for those that have not contributed. It's now out there for everyone to have.

WHY?

In the original situation ED would have only "bought" it as much as people would buy the map and then given whatever agreed percent to Starway. In this situation people bought the map but ALL of the given money was sent to Starway at his price.

Like I said the community bought the map for ED and themselves.

The last thing i would want to do is offend Starway, but HE set the price for the map to be released publicly and it was met.

If he did that, then I would consider his donation page fraudulent. I donated it so that the 'community' could have it for free. The 'community', in this instance, does not include ED, a for profit organization.

That's like saying if a guy was giving away mulch and sod for free on the side of the road to a neighborhood and a company in charge of maintaining the neighborhood took it and made the whole place look better and then sold more homes because of it. that they were committing fraud.... and that the guy on the side of the road committed fraud....

I have performance issues with it compared to stock so IMO its best to leave as a mod.

really? how? explain? i mean really think about it.

If i paid a guy to release a new OS to the public and he did, and then someone used that OS on their PCs they were building to make them better. That wouldn't be fraud. Because EVERYONE can use it. FRAUD is when someone gains something by dishonest means. NOT when someone uses something free to enhance their product

So it'd be fraud if they incorporated it so you still get it for free and don't have to fuss with uninstalling and installing it via JGSME with each update?

Cause I donated and I'd love to go back to life without JGSME and I've only had it installed for less than 24 hours at this point.

As convenient as it is what JGSME does for us the process is still a giant PITA and I've set it up for just one version of the game.

Your logic is over-entitled, selfish, and ridiculous. You donated. He released it. The transaction is complete. You hold no special license, title, or rights to his work.

Read ED's EULA and consider what rights, all of us, including Starway, give up if this is incorporated into DCS World. Right now anyone can tweak this mod anyway that they want. Once ED owns it, they can do anything that they want with it, including lock it down, or even sell it as a DLC.

Apparently they can't because that's the whole reason Starway couldn't get it on the store as a DLC. How does it being in their name suddenly make it viable as a DLC?

But ED can't claim it, because its free for everyone. Unless they change it significantly enough to make it a separate product. and then sell, lock down that version. But then Starway's would still be around for everyone.

How does Caucasus 2.5 sound? ED owns the whole map, they couldn't protect just the textures, that doesn't mean it could not be done differently and still sold. In the big picture, there is nothing to stop ED from making DCS World 2.5 free only to licensed module owners.

If Starway gives it to ED, then it belongs to ED. If you give me your car, I can definitely claim that it is mine. I can assure you that ED is not going to distribute code that they do not control.
