Chimango Posted June 19, 2016 Posted June 19, 2016 Congrats, all amazing skins jocko, you are talented! I've sent you a PM. 666GIAP_Chimanov - My Tomcat tribute video, type on youtube browser=> "DCS F-14 Tomcat Symphony"
jocko417 Posted June 20, 2016 Author Posted June 20, 2016 Errr.... Did You link to the thread You really wanted? Cause it doesn't seem to be in BST section, and it's not about liveries either :D Anyway, I haven't been using any custom F-86 paintjobs lately, but I tested the symptom by installing one of Jocko's skins in bazaar and voila - the CAF livery became default one in all missions. Since I'm not the enthusiast of custom skins affecting stock content (and that certainly wasn't the case with Jocko's skins a couple of versions ago), I'm just curious where I should put them to avoid this side effect. Hi Art, Are you saying one of my RCAF skins is being used as a default or that the BST Canadian Sabre skin from the new texture pack is? Only thing I can think of is if you select Canada as a country maybe DCS/BST will use the new Canadian skin as a default since you are playing as a Canadian? Not sure how this would happen otherwise, they're just textures. Have you tried installing them as per the directory tree mentioned in the readme? I don't play the game very much, 99% of my time in DCS these days is skinning, not flying, and definitely not multiplayer.

It wasn't me who noticed this game behaviour, but I decided to test it myself as well. As an example, I've used Your last, "Centennial" RCAF livery, checking all three installation methods separately (the "Bazar" one, the "Coremods" one, the "Saved Games" one). In all cases Your skin is being loaded for all default content 1.5.3 missions, instead of a stock USAF one (the default missions are set up as US only). It would seem this "alphabetical" loading of liveries started after recent patch or two for the F-86. Certainly wasn't the case before. No idea what the cause is (as F-86 is the only plane that seems to be affected) and how to avoid it. i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10.
SkateZilla Posted June 20, 2016 Posted June 20, 2016 (edited) Alot of 3rd Party Liveries appear to be Missing the Country Lines, which the game assumes available for all or default. All the Way on the Bottom, Under the Name in description.lua add a new line: countries = {"CAN" } I downloaded a few of jocko's and they were all missing that line. jocko417 Posted June 20, 2016 Author Posted June 20, 2016 I got rid of the country lines in the latest versions after answering umpteen PMs about 'why can't I find your skin in the mission builder', when player country not set to USA or CAN. Without a country line in the description, will the game assume that skin is a default skin eventhough it's named something else? I'm a skin guy, not a programmer :)
Art-J Posted June 20, 2016 Posted June 20, 2016 Skate, "You're da man"! Yesterday I noticed the same omission, copied the "countries" line with all damn countries possible from one of other plane's liveries, pasted it in Jocko's skin I use as a "testbed" here - no joy, the problem persisted. Now, I left the "CAN" only and voila - the default USAF skins are back in action, while the custom RCAF one works OK in user-made mission, for Canadian plane obviously. That leaves the question - why is F-86 so picky? In P-51 for example, the "country" line may contain numerous entries and any country works with any skin without affecting stock missions. i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10.

My question too, never had an issue with my P-51 skins or A-10 skins. Is this a 1.5.3 thing or a F-86 thing? On thd road so can't test anything right now.
jocko417 Posted June 20, 2016 Author Posted June 20, 2016 By the way, old versions had USA and CAN as countries (and ISR for Israeli Sabres), but never noticed RCAF skins being used as US defaults. Did something change in 1.5.3?

I'm a skin guy, not a programmer :) Correct, Without Designated Countries, Game Assumes it's open to All, At least that's what it appears to be, and it does this for all aircraft if the line is removed. I'd put them back in, and in instructions for use, instruct user to select correct country for the Livery. jocko417 Posted June 20, 2016 Author Posted June 20, 2016 Ok, simple enough. For interest's sake, if ALL country codes are in a description, will the game use a skin as default, or only if NO countries are included?
SkateZilla Posted June 20, 2016 Posted June 20, 2016 (edited) Im not sure if no defined countries opens to all countries, or if it automatically sets as default for all F-86Fs If Countries are Defined, then the livery will only be used by aircraft under those countries, and the random mission generator will still use them for those countries, if no countries are defined or if they are all defined, the RMG will put a Russian F-86F with a RCAF Livery, as it's seeing that the livery is available for Russia So if you specify CAN, USA, RUS and Run a Random Mission with the Sabre and those 3 countries, the Random/Default Livery Chosen will likely be the first one alphabetically. Which is why RCAF Sabres should be listed as CAN ONLY, so if user wants them in a mission he'd need to specify the country the jets are flying under as CANADA for that livery to be available. The "Only" Livery that should be available for all countries is a blank metal livery, lol. RCAF should be CAN only, USAF should be USA only, etc etc. Opening a Livery up to all countries because a User wants to fly w/ a RCAF Scheme as a USA F-86 just breaks the mission generator for everyone else. The User should specify CAN to use a RCAF Livery, problem solved on both ends. jocko417 Posted June 21, 2016 Author Posted June 21, 2016 Okaaayyy... All my Sabre skins have been uploaded again to correct the missing country line in the description files. This should solve all default livery display problems. My bad. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/?arrFilter_pf%5Bfiletype%5D=&arrFilter_pf%5Bgameversion%5D=&arrFilter_pf%5Bfilelang%5D=&arrFilter_pf%5Baircraft%5D=&arrFilter_DATE_CREATE_1_DAYS_TO_BACK=&CREATED_BY=jocko417&sort_by_order=TIMESTAMP_X_DESC&set_filter=Filter Please delete any of my Sabre skins you've previously downloaded and install them again. Corrected some details on 414 RCAF 23416 (Camo) while I was at it. :)
