v81 Posted June 4, 2016 Posted June 4, 2016 I have buddy who has limited access to expensive internet, but whom has just built a new rig. We're aware of deactivating etc.. so this is not a post asking about that, i thought i'd mention that as google results about moving from 1 PC to another pretty much exclusively discuss this and not the actual process of moving the entire installation intact. What we need to do is move the DCS 1.5 install in full from his laptop to his new PC, and get it running with a minimum of downloading. The most recent attempt was to dump the DCS folder on his new machine and run the updater with the -repair switch. Unfortunately this began a process that was moving data at a solid 7Mb/s from the internet and showing it was wanting to download about 4GB (Approx $50 worth of data on the only connection he can get at the moment). We'd like to know if there is a method, official or not that will allow the copying of moving from 1 machine to another. Anyone have any ideas? Cheers. Paganus Posted June 4, 2016 Posted June 4, 2016 Try this at your own risk... Download the installer to the new rig. Run it, but stop it before the downloads begin. Copy over the files from the old install. Don't forget the User folder.
Hadwell Posted June 4, 2016 Posted June 4, 2016 or you can just literally copy and paste the files over, then just run the updater, and you're good to go will need to re-activate, but no downloading required. snowsniper Posted June 4, 2016 Posted June 4, 2016 Paganus way, works. ever done it. fresh install in a new folder stop it copy all old folders inside do a repair without that step it will miss some registery information. don't copy the old uninst.* keep the new ones. be aware that you won't manage to keep all your binded joystick. only keyboard binding still there. probably because of peripherical adresses changed reactive all your module once the repair fonction says everythings OK. i7-10700KF CPU 3.80GHz - 32 GO Ram - - nVidia RTX 2070 - SSD Samsung EVO with LG TV screen 40" in 3840x2150 - cockpit scale 1:1 - MS FFB2 Joystick - COUGAR F16 throttle - Saitek Pro Flight Rudder Pedals
SkateZilla Posted June 4, 2016 Posted June 4, 2016 (edited) Deactivate Modules, Insert Thumb Drive or External HDD, Highlight DCS World, Right Click, Copy Goto Thumb/External Drive, Paste Folder. Goto C:/Users/<Username>/Saved Games/ Copy the DCS Settings Folder, Paste on External Drive Once Copy is done, goto new pc, Plug in external source Highlight DCS World, Right Click, Copy, and then goto your new PC's Drive, and Paste where ever you want. Highlight the Settings Folder, Goto C:/Users/<username>/Saved Games/ and paste it, go into the /Config.lua and delete Options.lua, and delete the /fxo/ folder. Run Repair for it to verify files and replace missing ones and refresh ones deleted (options.lua and pre-compiled shaders etc) Activate Modules Done.
