CXCdemo1 Posted June 4, 2016 Posted June 4, 2016 Hello Fellow DCs'ers, I am getting a bit frustrated with my problem that has now extended to 2 different computers. THe first being an intel i7 with a gtx 690 video card running windows 7 64bit. The other machine is a i5 with dual gtx 970 cards running windows 10. Both computers have the latest graphics card drivers and windows service packs. Both systems have the exact same problem, A problem that I have seen everywhere on these forums without a public fix that works. EVERY time I load any mission, quick flight, training, anything that should put me in the cockpit of the plane results in the game crashing at "loading land textures" The game will launch, the main menu works fine, its only when I go to fly that it crashes. Every time. Can someone please help? also , for some reason it is saying my log file is invalid. I cant upload it.

CXCdemo1 Posted June 6, 2016 Author Posted June 6, 2016 Oh wow, thank you so much for your quick response and potential help. I am not running any anti virus stuff. I did do one version of the repair after deleting a bunch of content. I also did one where I deleted the saved games folder and let it rebuild that folder. BTW I have the exact same issue with 2.0DxDiag.txt
shai Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 Hi, I have the same issue. It happen only in 1.5, 2.0 works fine. I removed 1.5 open beta and installed 1.5 from scratch but no luck. My machine's specification is much like CXCdemo1's: i5, gtx970(single) and Windows 10 with all the drivers updated. The logs and the dxdiag are attached. ThanksLogs.zipDxDiag.txt
CXCdemo1 Posted June 16, 2016 Author Posted June 16, 2016 Well a couple of weeks have gone by. I have to say I am very disappointed to not be able to play DCS still. it came so highly recommended and was so much fun to play at my friends house. So I downloaded the game and bought a handful of content. But to this day have yet to play it on my very standard machine. I see so many other people with the same "EXACT" problem. I have looked through the forums and it seems this loading land textures problem exists for many many people. Yet not a hint of any kind of solution. I actually wonder how a team could make such a fine game, and then drop the ball so badly when it comes to support and making the game playable on common machines. I guess the point of this note is just to get it off my chest. I am so disappointed. And such a great sim. What a shame!

Flagrum Posted June 16, 2016 Posted June 16, 2016 (edited) CXC, how does that crash exactly look like? "The application stopped responding" (or how the exact wording is...)? If that is the case, just click "Wait longer" (or how that wording ... etc.). DCS, if freshly installed or after major updates, has the habit of taking AGES to load when started the very first time. Give it at least 5 ... maybe better up to 10 minutes Later it should load within 1...3 minutes - only the very first time some DX11 graphics stuff (iirc shaders) is generated/created/updated/compiled which can take quite some time. edit: look at your dcs.log at the very end: 01042.667 INFO DX11BACKEND: Compile shader: particlesystem2/groundpuffcomp.fx:DIRECTX11=true;THREAD_X=2;THREAD_Y=20; 01049.869 ERROR DX11BACKEND: Can't find precompiled shader particlesystem2/groundpuff.fx:DIRECTX11=true;PARTICLES_IN_CLUSTER=3;. 01049.869 INFO DX11BACKEND: Compile shader: particlesystem2/groundpuff.fx:DIRECTX11=true;PARTICLES_IN_CLUSTER=3; 01049.956 ERROR DX11BACKEND: texture "normal_tmp.png" not found 01049.957 ERROR DX11BACKEND: texture "testAtlas.dds" not found all these "Compile shader" lines ... that's what's taking time (and there are A LOT of shaders to be compiled) @BIGNEWY, maybe you could ask ED to make this behaviour more transparent? I can't count how many times I've answered this specific issue already ... Perhaps just an additional info-popup "Hey, this could take SEVERAL minutes" or something like that ... Thanks Flagrum, waiting a few minutes did the trick for me. I guess I would have waited patiently if the application would not hang on mouse click.
CXCdemo1 Posted June 17, 2016 Author Posted June 17, 2016 PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!! Ok, so I upgraded to windows 10. and I had the exact same problem game crashes at "loading land textures" same problem. However Shai had the right answer. It was a matter of patiently waiting about 5 minutes without touching the keyboard or mouse. Right at the moment I usually give up and click the mouse causing the crash. I waited this time, and 5 minutes later it was flying. Thank you Shai and to the many others having this same issue this might help them. It was NOT the video card or drivers, it was not the operating system. It was waiting for an uncomfortable amount of time. I thank everyone who helped out on the topic and I will now be flying this very good sim.
