B2Blain
I recently built a new system - 6600K with a Gigabyte Gaming 3, Z170x. I purchased 2 8 GB sticks of Corsair Vengeance LPX DRAM - 3000 MHz https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0134EW7G8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I noticed in the BIOS that the memory was set to auto but its frequency was only 2133 MHz. I thought this was odd so set it to a profile that increased the frequency to 3000 MHz. That setting failed. Am I missing something?
blackbelter
It is considered an overclock. Maybe try increase the voltage a little and see?
B2Blain
It is considered an overclock. Maybe try increase the voltage a little and see? But isn't the DRAM capable of 3000 MHz? Otherwise I would have purchased a slower model.
Bewsher
The motherboard and cpu may not take that high ram speeds due to specs of the memory controller. also dont overvolt or touch anything else but the XMP profile 1 setting. Failing profile 1 settings in XMP the boards not rated to take it. Try 2666 DDR4 or 2400. Edited June 25, 2016 by Bewsher
Buzzles
A lot of motherboards don't correctly detect memory. You'll probably have to set up your own profile, entering the correct freq, dram timings and (maybe) voltage. All depends on the motherboard. 2 Fancy trying Star Citizen? Click here! Demon_
In the manual page 25 (profile XMP 2): http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5497#manual Edited June 25, 2016 by Demon_ 3 Attache ta tuque avec d'la broche.
B2Blain
In the manual page 25 (profile XMP 2): http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5497#manual Thanks! I only see one profile in my settings: Profile 1. The manual says profile 2 is only enabled when I have a cpu and memory that is capable of the setting sin profile 2. The specs says Corsair Vengeance is capable of XMP 2.0. https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Vengeance-3000MHz-PC4-24000-Memory/dp/B0134EW7G8/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1466884027&sr=1-2&keywords=corsair+vengeance I believe XMP is supported on the 6600k also. B2Blain
I'm thinking I need to up date the bios. I'm at F3. The latest is F6. We'll see how that goes.

B2Blain
I flashed the bios to the latest version, F6. Ironically it said that it improved XMP compatibility. Well, it didn't work.
Demon_
Memory support list: http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5497#memory%20support%20list Go on manual settings: 1.35v, 15-17-17-35, 3000Mhz It's a known problem with some high MHz memory sticks. I think Gigabyte release new BIOS update to fix this error on BIOS F7. http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte/62038-ga-z170x-gaming-g1-does-not-boot-xmp-2.html? I don't see too many higher speed DRAMs in the compatibility matrix. Ugh! Do you know how I can get into the manual settings? I don't see this as an option. Thanks! BitMaster
Some RAM modules are just incompatible with certain boards. If you can, send them back and get one that is listed or known to work. Shit happens :( Thanks! There are not a lot of choices with regard to compatible DRAM. I'm assuming the native speed is the speed that it runs at? If so then all 3600, 3400, 3200, and 3000 MHz DRAM runs at 2133. Maybe I should stick with what I have and hope a future bios upgrade will take care of the issue.
