They'll even bounce off water if the angle is low enough. (also look at this actual video of a Ka-50 shooting APC's - you can see the rounds bouncing off:

)

ps - have you looked at the dates on the files at the lockon.ru FTP server ? that 'black helicopter' video they just released was made in April...)

Cheers.

Did any body notise that? http://lockon.co.uk/index.php?end_pos=133&scr=products&lang=en or it is old news already?
Download does not work and this video file is not on their ftp site.

Finally a reason to break before flying over the target you just shot up.. It is possible in R/L to actually shoot yourself down by flying into your own bullets but I don’t know of a sim that actually models the “ricochet” effect..

Assuming that the ballistic are the same for all aircraft in Lockon then am I right in saying that all flyables will model this?

Just my opinion, but all flyables all non flyables by the look of it. Both air and ground units seem to have picked up dynamic balistics, Mi-24 (AI) & Ka-50 have rococheting rounds.

Cheers.

America's Army has bullet ricochet, this way you kan teamkill annoying teammates without getting too much ROE violation points ;)

The mi-24 rotor blades bend as well, cool.

I don't see any bouncing off in the youtube video, would you please tell me where it is? But isn't the bouncing too much in the demo video? It's almost like they are tennis balls.

BTW, can we model secondary projectiles too?

Worked for me while you were typing your post ... (but no it's not at the FTP site yet)
Well, I was not able to download any of the files if I access them through lockon.uk

Now, I tried lockon.ru and it is working.

I looked at the video (good find) & ran it with the LOBS video going beside it.

If you look at the parts of the LOBS video where you're behind the gun, the ricochets do scatter pretty much as they do in the shots in the real life video at dusk (esp. the parts with the red tracer) - & there's a bit where you see the fire from that chopper a bit more side on & from that angle the rounds appear to travel on more.

When I first saw the LOBS video I thought "pretty good, but maybe a bit much", but having seen that video - again especially the NVG parts & the shots with the red tracer ( one of which is 12 seconds in ) it's probably a bit underdone...

Cheers.

Cosmonaut - good find on the video, but that radio station are gonna catch some angry phone calls from motorists. The traffic helo is only supposed to report the traffic snarl-ups, not try to solve them with firepower........

Yep I’d have to agree with you on that. ED have the height and distance of the ricochet about right but the bullets don’t scatter enough when they bounce back up.. It should be more like a chaotic shot gun effect instead of a controlled water fall where the deflected rounds are still staying close together.

Here’s a nice vid of how the Gatling gun works.

LOL yeah “there was traffic on the 504 but our eye in the sky helicopter just cleared all lanes .. BTW our chopper is sponsored by Smith and Wesson" ;)

" ED have the height and distance of the ricochet about right but the bullets don’t scatter enough when they bounce back up.."

I had a look at those videos & I think ED have the scatter reasonably right - the shots on youtube from in line with the gun look like theirs a lot of scatter, but the ones from the side look like the bullets carry on more in the general direction they were going (same as the bullets in the dynamic balistics clip. from behind the vulcan they spread out quickly, but seen from the side they look to stay together for quite a while & drift apart. Basically I guess you should get something that looks like a normal distribution curve but with a log scale across the bottom for the angle of deflection ???

Cheers.
