recommended spec when using the VR setting (Not low, medium or High)

im just curious, what is the recommended system spec when using the VR preset?

is it supposed to be like for minimum Nvidia GTX970 like the oculus minimum spec?

so when i click VR, to load the preset values, and when i try the quick missions A10A, Su25T, P51D, my frames run between 45-90 fps.

i have a computer with 6700K @ 4.6 and a nvidia GTX1080...(no mods installed) im just wondering why its not a solid 90fps

if someone can share what settings they have for a computer with both 6700K (or equivalent) paired with a GTX 1080..

many thanks

970 is the minimal VR ready spec as most recommend.

As SZ said. The FPS limit by the engine. Actually even my old GTX770 GPU usage never goes above 90% when i was playing the DCS. The bottom neck is not the hardware or settings.

my concern is not 90 fps, my concern is why it sinks to 40-ish and not maintaining a solid 90 fps.. i thought i had some high performance hardware, with the 6700K & GTX1080..

The recommended specs from Oculus concern only Oculus store games, not heavy simulations like DCS. And some of those games have higher specs than the recommended minimum anyway.

I have a 6700K @ 4.2 GHz right now, and a EVGA GTX-1080 FE.

I get about the same results as you running at 1.5 on the Oculus debug tool. But of course we are not talking about all out war here...just me flying around in Vegas.

1.5 times supersampling is 2.25 times the number of calculated "pixels". Running the rift @ 2 pixels is more "pixels" than a 4K screen.

At 1.0 pixels I don't get 90 fps either in many situations, and that's just for sightseeing.

But whatever the recommended specs man, you have the best equipment possible...until the 1080ti comes out of course.

Simultaneous viewport (et al) rendering will give a hell of a boost also !

We are only at the shoebox phase* of VR...

*Shoebox phase: electronic devices seem to always go through what I call a "shoebox phase" because they always start too big...Radio took until the 60's to get out of the SB phase, TV was still in it until recently. Of course the cell phone of the 80's and early 90's was the quintessential shoebox device...look at them now. Same goes for VR, wait a few short years and perfection will be at hand.

HP ZR24W Monitor, EVGA GTX 1080ti FE

Thrustmaster Warthog, MFG CrossWind rudder...

and Oculus Rift CV1.

my current settings is the default VR preset..

i wont know exactly until i get home, but basically all the settings that are loaded when you click on "VR".

I was curious and just tried that new VR setting button. So according to ED the default VR values which are loaded when you click it are Visib Range = High and Shadows = medium. See pic for the rest.

Both settings are killers for the FPS especially shadows. A total mystery to me how ED could come up with these values :shocking:
