SuperKungFu Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 Like the title says, what anti-virus software do you use? I currently use norton but it was said it takes up resoucres, so i an looking for something that will still keep my computer safe yet takes less resources. My bro suggested something called AVG, is that good? Well i tried installing that but then it conflicted with my cd burner (roxio). lol so i guess my next question would be what cd burning software you use. I usually look for the best, and since i have been saving up some money, i can buy these softwares. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Guest IguanaKing Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 All I can tell you, if you're looking for AV software that takes less resources than Norton...DON'T go with McAfee. The latest version is absolutely absurd, and frankly, I think I'd rather have a virus than have that horse puckey on my machine. I'm currently trying Bit Defender...it looks good so far.
Disso Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 I use Kaspersky Antivirus and am overwhelmingly pleased with it! It picks up EVERYTHING, and I mean EVERY-THING that possibly came at me. I've been visiting trusted sites for years, but since installing Kaspersky, it even picked up trojans and adaware that I've been missing. It scans absolutely everything, even as you surf the web, everything, and as you wish, doesn't take much, if any, resources to run. The only, only flaw it might have, is that doing a full computer scan takes FOREVER, probably because of how thorough of a job it does. I remeber I did a scan, and it took more than a complete day to finish! Other than this, this should be THE one to go with! SU-30MKI F/A-18F ...Beauty, grace, lethality.
SuperKungFu Posted September 10, 2006 Author Posted September 10, 2006 Thanks ill stay the hell away from McAfee but will check up Kaspersky. Never heard about it. Anyway, Disso, maybe it takes a long time to scan is due to how big and fast is your hard drive. Can you tell me what you are running on? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
dodger42 Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 I use Norton with no problems at all. . . . Lockon Advanced Realism with Touch-Buddy
SuperKungFu Posted September 11, 2006 Author Posted September 11, 2006 yea me too but some people have said it hogs up resources, although I'm not that aware of it, i just want to save as much fps as i can for my sims. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Chicote Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 Used Norton for years but heard it used up too much system resource so gave Mcafee a try. Pretty pleased with Mcafee and also saw a small improvement in LOMAC. More fluid, fewer stutters.

Cosmonaut Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 Norton is the worst or one of the worst, don’t trust it and don’t use it. I use Kaspersky and it’s the best, check out any online comparison and you’ll see that Norton scores are average. Also when I did use Norton I couldn’t game with on because I would notice a certain choppiness when playing but with Kaspersky I don’t even drop a single frame, it just sit there silently in the systems tray doing its thing. http://www.virus.gr/english/fullxml/default.asp?id=82&mnu=82 Cozmo. SuperKungFu Posted September 12, 2006 Author Posted September 12, 2006 i decided to switch to Kaspersky Antivirus and yea its pretty good. Although it does scan for a while like yor guys said but I'm still pleased with it. But no one answer my second question: what cd burning software do you guys use. Right now I'm on Roxio, but it's kinda old. Any suggestions? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Roman G Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 I don't use antivirus. My login account is not member of admin group and can write files to only few folders. I use NAT router with no open ports & ZoneAlarm. I use Opera - and for rare occurences when I have to use Internet Explorer I custom setup IE security to forbit almost everything except basic stuff. I am very careful what I download. My wife's account can write files only to her folder, use Opera too, and I forbade her to use Internet Explorer and download anything. I am running like that for about 10 years and I am pretty sure I haven't got any virus/spy/adware on my box so far. About year ago I bought Norton Antivirus and scanned my box. It did not find anything so I uninstalled it next day (because I noticed that it slowed down my box). I will probably re-check my box with antivirus sometimes in few years again.
zaelu Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 I use Zone Alarm as firewall cause its good, Opera as a browser (very paranoid at just launching things in execution in background cause the site want it ;) ) cause is lightning fast and safe and as antivirus... Bitdefender Free edition. Is just missing the Virus Shield... like.. real time protection. Is scaning only at command...right click on the item and.... zap! I like it... no slows and it keeps me on my toes :D [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] I5 4670k, 32GB, GTX 1070, Thrustmaster TFRP, G940 Throttle extremely modded with Bodnar 0836X and Bu0836A, Warthog Joystick with F-18 grip, Oculus Rift S - Almost all is made from gifts from friends, the most expensive parts at least
SuperKungFu Posted September 12, 2006 Author Posted September 12, 2006 Well Kaspersky Antivirus is pretty good, i finished scanning (which took about 5 hours so yea it was pretty long). But it detected what norton couldn't, Kaspersky actually found 10 virus! Damn i should stop visiting...those...certain aviation websites. :P Well thanks for the tips guys, and Kaspersky doesn't seem to hog up resources as much as Norton so I'm pretty pleased about that. Btw, what cd burning software do you guys use? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Cosmonaut Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 5 Hours! Wow you must have loaded up HD ;) It takes me about an hour and a half for a full scan which I do once a month. It never detects anything because Kas catches everything before it makes onto my hard drive. I would suggest the next time you start a full scan that you wait until you wont be using your pc for a while .. like before you go to sleep. :smilewink: Anyway I use Nero for burning and Firefox for surfing the web. Las week I used IE for the first time in months and after clicking a link from a post in the Americas Army forum Kaspersky stopped a Trojan trying to infect my system .. lets just say I’m thinking of uninstalling IE ;) Cozmo. Dutch Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 I use NOD32 - the best unknown threat detector, it detects viruses which are not on any threat list  "Docei de e eduaimonia en te schole einai - Считается, что счастье заключено в досуге"© - Аристотель
zaelu Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 .. lets just say I’m thinking of uninstalling IE ;) Good Luck! :D [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] I5 4670k, 32GB, GTX 1070, Thrustmaster TFRP, G940 Throttle extremely modded with Bodnar 0836X and Bu0836A, Warthog Joystick with F-18 grip, Oculus Rift S - Almost all is made from gifts from friends, the most expensive parts at least
Cosmonaut Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 Good Luck! :D LOL .. well I wouldn’t actually remove it even if I could but I think there is a way of installing windows that might let you, …well lets just say leave out IE.
