Hmm, how not surprisingly, the propaganda still works, even I thought of the Arrow when I read your title. We're well trained civillians now :| Well, actually, because I saw the movie once on bbc2, I found it hilarious, and using the same propaganda style as that B-47 movie, with the numb hand  Second most overestimated til now, with fans coming in shortly to say how well the current nr.1 is with LPI radarz en l33t st34lth, and that it will replace anything flying, and that it's worth its cost, and that its cost is 10times lower than the media says.

They also may start about kill ratios and other unfounded propaganda propagation. Good luck.

Now that's an Aircraft

Yes that is the Avro Arrow(CF-105) and with it's less powerfull pratt and Whittney engines, it did Mach1.5 in a climb through 58,000 feet and was still excelerating. Not bad back in 1958. Roll was to be an all weather intercepter. Just thought some of you would like a look at a blast from the past. Not ment to start to compare it to today. Just thought you might like to look and comment on what this bird might have done if allowed to go into production. the MK11 was ready to fly with the Iroque engines installed with over 16,000 pounds of thrust compared to the 12,000 Pratt&Whittney that made the record flight past 58,000 feet. This is not a p--sing thread just a remember a very nice old bird that was 40 years ahead in technology and flight. Yes the movie was Holywood, what do you expect but the archived video in the Canadian air museum and pictures are the real deal as well as the official records of it's flights. Just enjoy this one as it never went into production and we know why. Just a bit of aviation History of a very fine aircraft.cheers.

I may be new to these forums, but I know tripe when I see it. Saying the Avro Arrow was ahead of it's time is not buying into 'propaganda'. It was the first interceptor of it's kind that used innovative designs in almost all corners of the aircraft.

In fact, the lead engineers left to join the boys over at NASA only to later design the lunar landing module. I'm sorry the BBC movie didn't paint a good picture, but rating the Arrow based off a made for T.V movie is like ranking the Tomcat after watching TopGun.

It was a great aircraft...it's really too bad it never had a chance to prove itself in combat.

No, that's good - we don't really need no combat or weapons for that matter. For the money we spend on weapons and bs like that, we could go to Mars a decade ago and colonize our solar system, insted we go and kill eachother for no good reason.

Besides, LM never landed on the Moon :ufo:

I've read your post 5 times and I still don't understand what this has to do with the Arrow, my previous post...or anything else for that matter. Instead, I'll just nod my head and say okay.

Okay?

His post had nothing to do with the Avro.

Pity the project was dismantled such that not a single part of the prototype was left unscrapped for fear the technology would fall into the wrong hands. Instead they decided to build the missle defense system....*sigh*.

The largest existing piece of the Avro (the nose section) can be seen at the Ottawa Aviation Museum, as well as the missle that was its replacement.

I've actually visited that Museum before - a couple of times actually. The Toronto Aerospace Museum will also be rolling out a full scale replica of the Arrow this October.

That would be pretty cool to see.
