Week 4 Status Report

Counter Strike

The skies finally cleared enough for both sides to return to action. Allies attacked first with an early dawn raid intending to catch the Axis off guard. There was a momentary setback as while the B17’s were getting in the air, 2 of them just exploded and were lost. Are they using some experimental fuel? Or another case of Sabotage? Either way, the early raid apparently worked as Axis was only able to get limited numbers of fighters in the air. Axis still put up a good defense, downing 2 of the B17’s and turning a couple more away. The Allies drove on in though in a triple waved attack that heavily damaged the Axis industrial center and airfield. A couple Axis fighters were damaged in the attack and 1 was lost, colliding with a bomber. Several Allied fighters were lost in the attack as well.

Later in the day, the Axis mounted their counterattack. *It was then we found out that several Axis pilots were unfit for flight duty due to excessive celebrations. Though short of pilots, they pressed the attack in a single wave towards the Allied industrial complex. On the way, they were met by Allied Mustangs. Try as they might, the Allies were not able to deter the bombers, which scored heavy damage on their target. Several bombers were shot down while retreating, but the damage had already been done. The Allies did pull off a sneak attack, sending 2 Mustangs to attack a brand new industrial center the Axis were building. The attack did some light damage to the area, though it could have been much worse.

The battle presses on as both are reeling from devastating attacks to each other's industrial centers. Production has slowed greatly for both sides and now the Axis maintenance capability has been hit hard. Will they be able to recover like the Allies have? Stay tuned to find out!

*(Actually, real world commitments kept several pilots from participating this week)

Allied bombers were on time and on target today. The early morning raid really seemed to pay off. Even with fighting the strong winds of the day, the coordination of the individual bomber groups help to disorient the enemy CAP and allow for a successful run over target where their Iron Maidens found their home among the roof tops of some key resource buildings.

Even though the Allied effort finally got their break where they could take a little breath and relax some due to the early morning bombing success. There is plenty left to due to help secure the front and strengthen the Allied war effort. It does seem however the Allied Pilots are still a little overwhelmed by the fighting precision of the BF-109 and FW190 pilots. Their is some "scuttle butt" going around that the individual tactics of the fighters may be changing to more of a force in numbers aerial strategy.

From the ground it was reported that that a small team of enemy fighters were spotted in close location to one of the B-17 air bases. However due to an intense fire fight no prisoners were taken. It is suspected that they may have had something to do with 2 of the Allied bombers exploding while on the Tarmac. Luckily there were only minor injuries but no human casualties.

It is a free mod that is available, created by a small group (Markindel, Stonehouse & Crazyeddie). It is also AI only. They have made several other WWII aircraft so check the ED User download section and the forums.

The Campaign is indeed online and fully dynamic (though manually tracked and managed). It is mission based instead of a full time online type of deal. See here for details:

Right now, the Axis is still a bit short of players on the US time frame (10PM Eastern). If anyone is interested, please respond in the above thread or PM me and I will get you set up. We are also still trying to start up a Euro friendly time for the campaign, again, see above link for details.
