KatBreath Posted July 21, 2016 Posted July 21, 2016 http://finch-vr.com/ Another hand controller, looks pretty interesting but not tested with DCS. Not sure if they are out of Kickstarter and have released any product yet but figured that you folks would be interested. Can't wait till Oculus touch comes out. i7-6700 / 32GB DDR4 / 500GB SSD / GT 108 Founders /Oculus S/ Warthog /TRP/Obutto Ozone
hansangb Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 hmm,, I like the little mini-me trackpad idea. I just submitted a pre-order (you don't have to put any payment info - and if in the US, I guess you don't have to specify the country) hsb HW Spec in Spoiler --- i7-10700K Direct-To-Die/OC'ed to 5.1GHz, MSI Z490 MB, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3, NVMe+SSD, Win 10 x64 Pro, MFG, Warthog, TM MFDs, Komodo Huey set, Rverbe G1
NeilWillis Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 It does indeed. I guess we will see a lot of controllers like this arriving in the market. The question will be which one will be the best? Right now, I'd keep your wallet closed and see what comes along.
Ratcatcher Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 Yes looks interesting. The question will be how easily will these controllers be in integrate into a game. Especially existing games rather than those designed for this type of controller. wormeaten Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 People when you will realize there is no hand controler in DCS without 3D positioning in cockpit. First step for that must be done by ED creating 3D mouse cursor. Right now is 2D.
Einherjer Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 But The new "laser" 3d cursor is a good step in the right direction

I have a feeling that when any such controller is released, ED will be pretty prompt in making the neccessary changes. First, we need a controller, and an industry standard for how they interact with the base games. It's hard to predict what will be needed until someone actually introduces something to work with. But hell yes! A hand tracking device enabling us to simply reach out and flick switches will be a great addition to VR, and is a must.
KatBreath Posted July 22, 2016 Author Posted July 22, 2016 I've been back and forth with the people over at Finch VR and it looks like they won't be in General availability production till later 2017. When I asked if they are in production: "Not yet, we are planning to do 1st shipments exclusively for developers at the end of 2016" When I asked about working with DCS out of the box they said: "FinchVR is using standard HID interface, so there is no doubt that it will work. But you should do a proper setting works." So in short, looks cool but no GA for a while. Need a virtual cockpit! i7-6700 / 32GB DDR4 / 500GB SSD / GT 108 Founders /Oculus S/ Warthog /TRP/Obutto Ozone

First step for that must be done by ED creating 3D mouse cursor. Right now is 2D. Which is fine for me. I have Leap so I know all about the limitations. I am curious about the little circular mousepad on a finger concept. 3D tracking of fingers is a bonus down the road if and when DCS supports it. But I do like the idea of a physical sensors on the fingers. Probably the best solution given that HOTAS makes it difficult to track fingers. hsb HW Spec in Spoiler --- i7-10700K Direct-To-Die/OC'ed to 5.1GHz, MSI Z490 MB, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3, NVMe+SSD, Win 10 x64 Pro, MFG, Warthog, TM MFDs, Komodo Huey set, Rverbe G1
kobac Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 I prefer the idea with gloves on tiptoes have small vibrators which would provide a sense of touch. :smartass: But this is great idea for the beginning. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]Everything is possible ...

Even now without VR need we will have benefit from such 3D cursor using mouse. It is completely different approach then what it is now. 3D moving of cursor should acting similar like it is 3D view hendeling in some RTS game. Other important issue is to cursor stay in space not be effecting by head motion.
Kuky Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 Full on gloves that work in 3D are instant buy for me when they are released :) I wonder about the extra cables with them that will need to run from the glove to the PC... maybe a suitable suit to run the cables through is needed also? :) PC specs: Windows 11 Home | Asus TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi | AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D + LC 360 AIO | MSI RTX 5090 LC 360 AIO | 55" Samsung Odyssey Gen 2 | 64GB PC5-48000 DDR5 | 1TB M2 SSD for OS | 2TB M2 SSD for DCS | NZXT C1000 Gold ATX 3.1 1000W | TM Cougar Throttle, Floor Mounted MongoosT-50 Grip on TM Cougar board, MFG Crosswind, Track IR
wormeaten Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 This is not real hands tracking actually. According to video this is gyro sensors like on mobile plus some sort of buttons. This is actually work like mouse only gyro axes simulating mouse movement. This could work in DCS as mouse emulator. Less precision will be strictly DCS issue.
