Snacko Posted August 4, 2016 Posted August 4, 2016 (edited) I was trying to tweak my cockpit Audio settings today and decided to start over, and set everything to 0% except the Master slider, which was a 70%. Since all of the other sliders were at 0% I thought that I should not hear anything. But I could hear the Engines and RWR in the Su-25t just fine. But these are World(outside cockpit) and In-Cockpit sounds. So I should not hear them, right?? So I am confused. The manual says this about the Audio Settings: WORLD. The volume of audio sources outside of the cockpit. IN COCKPIT. This slider controls the volume levels of audio sources inside your cockpit. Examples include switches and fans. HELMET. Use this slider to adjust volume levels that would come through the pilot's headphones such as radio messages and warnings. And my settings are like this. Why do I hear these sounds? ricktoberfest Posted August 4, 2016 Posted August 4, 2016 Well the engines are outside so that's normal. For the RWR maybe it's on purpose so if someone launches a missile at you while you're gazing lovingly at your new aircraft you get warning Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Snacko Posted August 4, 2016 Author Posted August 4, 2016 As you say, the engines are outside! So their sound should be controlled by the World volume slider. But they are not... That is not normal according to the DCS document. _Randolph93 Posted August 4, 2016 Posted August 4, 2016 Do you restart DCS after you change the sliders?Because AFAIK it only applies after restart 1 .
ricktoberfest Posted August 4, 2016 Posted August 4, 2016 Oops, thought you meant the WORLD slider was up Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Snacko Posted August 4, 2016 Author Posted August 4, 2016 Do you restart DCS after you change the sliders?Because AFAIK it only applies after restart Oh man!! Why don't they document this stuff!! Thanks Randolph93!! Restarting the game did fix the engine sound to be controlled by the 'World' slider. But the RWR did not change. Apparently it is fixed to the Master slider for some reason. Fakum Posted February 7, 2017 Posted February 7, 2017 Are you serious Clark! I know this is a little old, but i found this while searching as I was going a little bonkers. After all these years, I decided to square away these sounds, love having options! But I did not know this,,, thanks guys. cichlidfan Posted February 7, 2017 Posted February 7, 2017 This constitutes a bug, IMHO. Every game I have ever played will warn/prompt you that the game must be restarted before certain changes will take effect (usually only graphics changes fall into this category). Btw, I have never seen a game/sim that needed a restart for changes to sound volume. Fakum Posted February 7, 2017 Posted February 7, 2017 No argument here! It is an annoyance indeed. Snacko Posted February 7, 2017 Author Posted February 7, 2017 Totally agree! This is a bug. Or just bad programming/design. A simple prompt, or onscreen message at least would help some people who spend hours trying to change sounds and then fly a quick mission over and over and over to test the changes!! I am sure that I won't touch the sounds for a long time and then some day in the future this will waste my time again.. Fakum Posted February 7, 2017 Posted February 7, 2017 I dont know about you guys, but the only reason I have even started messing around with it is because its seems that on occasion, some of the updates seem to impact certain sound levels. As an example, when 1.5 came out, I set my Audio controls to what I had set in 1.2, and over the years, I have had to make adjustments to try and get the same results I once had with 1.2. I still have versions 1.2, 1.5 & 2.0 installed and Im trying to keep them all alike what I had set in 1.2, but the sliders are NOT in the same positions at all in comparison. And while Im on the subject, I still dont truly understand the description of the Master Volume, it is described as: VOLUME: This controls the ingame master volume of the audio settings and affects all channels equally. What does that mean, equally? I mean, if Im trying to turn down world noise and raise in cockpit etc, how does the Master volume work in conjunction with the individual ones? Am I supposed to maybe set the Main Volume down to like 50% then tweek the others up or down as preferred? Snacko Posted February 7, 2017 Author Posted February 7, 2017 I usually set the main volume at around 70% and adjust the rest to balance them as I like. This main volume is similar to your volume on your taskbar. It affects all dcs sounds equally. Once I have the individual sounds balanced so they sound good to me, I will adjust the dcs main volume so that it is not too loud for teamspeak and other computer sounds that i want to be able to hear. Now it's balanced with everything and I can just turn the computer volume up and down and everything changes equally.
