In the Elbe Rescue mission, at the top of the mountain after being overloaded with troops, even with the RPM Governor off, I can't maintain a hover in order to takeoff. So what is the best procedure to safely get off the ground?

I pretty much have to perform a sort of ski jump in order to get enough speed to transit into normal forward flight. It seems like a really risky maneuver, so I was wondering if there was a sort of running takeoff that I could perform so that I wouldn't have to dive down the slope first before being able to fly under my own power.

yep... that is about it with the Huey... it is a risky rescue.

land in the best possible position to allow yourself a skid bumping run out until you run out of mountain with the intention of falling off the edge... you should then easily pick up speed and lift.

HP G2 Reverb (Needs upgrading), Windows 10 VR settings: IPD is 64.5mm, High image quality, G2 reset to 60Hz refresh rate. set to OpenXR, but Open XR tool kit disabled.

DCS: Pixel Density 1.0, Forced IPD at 55 (perceived world size), DLSS setting is quality at 1.0. VR Driver system: I9-9900KS 5Ghz CPU. XI Hero motherboard and RTX 3090 graphics card, 64 gigs Ram, No OC... Everything needs upgrading in this system!.

Vaicom user and what a superb freebie it is! Virpil Mongoose T50M3 base & Mongoose CM2 Grip (not set for dead stick), Virpil TCS collective with counterbalance kit (woof woof). Virpil Apache Grip (OMG). MFG pedals with damper upgrade. Total controls Apache MPDs set to virtual Reality height. Simshaker Jet Pro vibration seat.. Uses data from DCS not sound... goodbye VRS.

It was pretty common for the Huey from what I have read, and actually helicopters in general are subject to the same physics as fixed wing in regards to atmosphere and how it affects your flight.

In the 60's the pilots were taught to fly the Huey one way, and had plenty of power stateside, but then had to more or less relearn flying it once in Vietnam because of the humidity. I have read DOZENS of stories about having to use hillside to drop off of to get enough FWD speed to actually get a loaded up Huey flying. Gunships too, the C was an up-engined B model and carried their ord and 4 crew; I have read many stories involving gunships making running takeoffs, and in some cases even having the chief and gunner run alongside the Huey to lighten it up enough to get actually get light on the skids to taxi FWD for a running take off.
