Boelie Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 Hi all, I'm thinking of buying a new stick to replace my X52 Pro, and of course one looks at the Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS. One question, as I've never used Track IR or something similar, I still use an 8 way pov switch to control my camera and look around. Can you use the grey button on the stick for camera control? I was told that the grey POV switch only has 4 programmable buttons (North, E, S, W), but I find that difficult to believe. There would have to be a way to program the buttons in between (NE, SE, SW, NW)?! Anyone any experience with this? Thanks!

The grey button is an 8-way POV hat on the Warthog, and the throttle has an 8-way POV as well. Actually, in most modules these two buttons are set up as view buttons as default. firmek Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 If it's the grey trim switch on joystick that you've in mind then yes, it is an 8 position switch. It could be potentially used to look arround but in cost of loosing the trim switch. I would suggest you to consider getting TrackIR instead of a new stick if your X52 is fine. This would increase overall experience much more than upgrading to Warthog. Boelie Posted August 20, 2016 Author Posted August 20, 2016 Unfortunately, my X52 is not fine :(. The stick won't move smoothly anymore, lube won't help as it's a shortcoming in the base plate upon which the springs rest. Thank you guys for confirming the above, at least now I know it's a buy that I can actually work with. As it's pricey enough, a possible track ir has to wait.
norbot Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 (edited) The grey trim switch on the HOTAS Warthog is an 8 position switch and it is set up as view-switch by default. You can still use it as a trim-switch combinded with another key (I'm using it together with left CTRL). Edited August 20, 2016 by norbot

Or assign a button as a modifier as well, for instance the paddle, then holding paddle in whilst moving hat would work. Without modifier, acts as trim, with acts as POV - or vice versa... But also I would encourage you when you can, to consider investing in the Track IR - pretty big game changer over using POV hat. Sokol1_br Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 (edited) Besides the 8 way angles one can use HAT as POV control in panning mode, what move the camera in any direction, like with mouse and not in fixed angle (this sound's me "vintage", when games has only this option :) ) - and end more natural. And using a key or joy button as modifier can use cockpit 6DOF, e.g. lean right/left... I am TrakIR "allergic" (have one, but use half dozen of times in ~8 years) and use HAT for panning. Example, with basic 4 buttons + HAT joystick (spare) I can: Pan camera around with HAT 6DOF/Zoom: HAT + Win key as modifier Trim: HAT + LCtrl key as modifier BTW - The hardware under HAT is just 4 switches, what make "8 ways" is the firmware decoding two simultaneous switches press, e.g. N and E as NE.
