Neurowork Posted August 26, 2016 Posted August 26, 2016 Hey guys, I have read a lot about LASTE wind correction on the forum. I have been introduced to the problem by the great video by Bunyap and started to read on the subject. I have read mixed comments about the actual effect of entering the wind values in the CDU. Some of the comment date back a little. I'm not sure whether ED has made any corrections on the subject. I'm more sure what happens when the mission has dynamic weather set. It seems I can't get the values to input. I was under the impression that in real life, that data is imported from the Data Cardrigde. I thought I had read somewhere that it might be implemented but I may be mistaken. I'm sure I am not the only one asking the question (or maybe am I ?). It would be great to have a definitive answer whether it is actually needed or not. Any insight ? Thanks guys. Cheers! Raistlen007 Posted August 26, 2016 Posted August 26, 2016 In DCS you have to input the wind data into the CDU manually. In real life it automatically updates.
Hansolo Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 (edited) I have been following advice from some of the veteran hardcore members saying that is most case (some mentiones up to 90%) you do not need to enter wind correction in the CDU because the IFFCC will handle it quite well. I am not saying that you shouldn't enter wind correction but perhaps that in most case you don't need to. In most cases the inaccuracy may just be poor line up. Or the fact too much accuracy is being expected from none guided bombs. I'll see if I can browse some of the links I have been following. Neurowork Posted August 27, 2016 Author Posted August 27, 2016 (edited) Thanks Han. I think that clarifies the situation. Cheers !! Neuro. :joystick: PS: It must be a pleasure to input the wind correction in that CDU or yours :). Great job!! Yurgon Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 My personal impression in some campaign missions has been that entering wind data into the CDU turns dumb bombs almost into precision weapons. However, I've read repeatedly that this shouldn't be the case in RL. So maybe it's just my imagination, or maybe DCS does take it into effect more than it should. Basically, I only do it when I carry dumb bombs and have some briefed weather info (that is, when the briefing suggests I should take winds and weather into account). Most missions, it wouldn't make a difference anyway (because many mission designers don't fit the A-10C with dumb bombs, and the really lazy ones don't even add the least bit of wind). ;)

In a medium-strong wind conditions entering the wind data into LASTE made a noticeable difference, especially when dropping dumb bombs from higher altitudes. Specifying temperature not so big though but why taking the effort to enter wind parameters not to spend just few seconds more to enter temperatures also.
