I'm not sure if anybody will be able to answer this except the devs, but I'll ask the question anyway. Will we be able to open missions created in 1.5 in DCS 2.5? It would be quite horrible to put many hours into new missions/a campaign for DCS 1.5 to find out that it won't load in 2.5 anymore.

Second, while working on some missions for DCS 1.5, I noticed that the updated Caucasus map for DCS 2.5 will have a lot more trees. This is (graphically) a nice addition, but I'm wondering if significant clearing in forests will remain. I e.g. use a specific location for my whole campaign due to a clearing.

So if they would completely change this (if the clearing would have disappeared), I can throw away the whole campaign, especially because the updated maps will have collision detection for trees.

In other words, would it be best to not start/continue creating any new mission/campaign until 2.5 has been released.

Hopefully somebody has some info about this.

Thank you for the information. Well, that's bad news. I supose I'll anyway continue....but I need to finish it before the release of 2.5....

Depends somewhat on how much of the game is changed from 1.5 to 2.5. Yes, running older missions on newer game client versions can cause all sorts of issues, but often these issues can be solved by simply opening the mission in the newer version of the mission editor and then saving it again.

What tends to kill older missions is changes to the game AI and scripting system. A few years ago now when we went from Black Shark to A-10C modules the entire AI system got a very welcome upgrade, the result of which was that none of the old missions worked any more.

I certainly don't have any insider information, but from everything I've read about 2.5 it appears that ED are taking the opportunity to add in a load of fixes and new features in addition to merging the 1.5 & 2.0 game branches. It wouldn't surprise me if some or a lot of the AI got a tune up at the same time.

End effect? Since 2.5 appears to be the 'foundation' version for the known future of DCS World, I'd wait rather than spending hundreds of hours creating something that may not be usable by the end of the year.

Since the terrain mesh will change in 2.5 I think some height information will not be correct, especially for units on the ground. Maybe a quick open -> save will solve that, maybe not. You can't be certain until 2.5 is out. Just try and error then ;)

Well we'll have to wait and see. 2.5 is a big step with a lot of changes. On the other hand the backward compability with missions created under 1.5 has to be somehow addressed. For sure ED realizes that if the old missions wouldn't work the result would be that in one day when 2.5 comes out DCS losses all of its content apart of aircraft modules.

Some minor issues can be probably expected though.
