I am new to flight sims, and was considering getting into it. I did see that DCS is considered one of the best simulators. What I would like to know is what controller systems are considered good for this product.

Searching the web I find Saitek products are mentioned frequently. (For example, the Saitek Pro Flight X-55 Rhino HOTAS.) Any other good products/brands? Please consider this from a newbie approach. I don't wish to spend a couple grand at this point for a full-fledge pilot cabin simulator. Maybe something more around the $100-$300 range (if possible). Thanks.

I you can wait a couple of weeks, Thrustmaster has a new HOTAS coming out that should be perfect for your needs.

^ This plus a trackir setup and you will be all set.

I think it's probably best to wait and see how Thrustmaster's new FCS HOTAS will turn out. It should be out in few weeks.

I think the quality will be much better than anything from saitek.

The CH Fighter Stick and Throttle is also fairly good (better than saitek) when it comes to quality. It just doesn't look as cool.

It also depends on which plane you'll be flying. Some aircraft have fewer buttons so you can easily use a $30 logitech 3D pro.

Edit: as mentioned by SV gamer. A trackIR is probably more important than a HOTAS. If I had $300 I'd definitely make the TrackIR the priority and get a joystick with fewer buttons.

(It might also be worth waiting for this $35 trackIR system to be released by Hegyck https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=104154&highlight=replika)

Thanks for the replies. These are great suggestions. Heck, I wasn't even aware of the TrackIR system you mentioned. This is exciting stuff to me. Amazon indicates an Oct-1 release of the new Thrustmaster so I will probably wait for that. Seems like a real nice unit especially for the price. Thanks again.

RM Cougar Hotas for sale

Gents:

I have three Cougars. I have a VKB Gladiator Pro. I was going to use the VKB for WWII sims but I like my Cougars. So, I am selling the Gladiator Pro and one of the Cougars. Both have the original boxes.

The TM Cougar Hotas is stock gimbals, etc. ( I have two I am not selling.. one with Ian Johnson's gimbals and the 2nd with Mile's hall type magnetic sensors.........

The Cougar (with TQS) I would take $300.00 which includes shipping to somewhere within the continental US.

I will accept $235.00 for the Gladiator Pro which also includes shipping like above.

I have for sale a 30" monitor .. Dell 2560 by 1600. I do not need it as I prefer the 24" (space concerns)

If you are interested let me know.... we can discuss method of payment. We can use my Legal trust account to hold or wire funds into upon payment by your bank......... I ship the product.

Do yourself a massive favor and put TrackIR very high on your list of things to buy. If you have never used a head tracking system, it will blow you away. It has been years now, but the first time I fired up a sim with TIR I nearly had to change my underwear. ;)

It is that much of a game changer. VR is an even bigger step, but that is a whole different level and requires a very solid game machine. TIR has virtually no impact on performance so any system that can run the sim will use it beautifully.

ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero, i7-6700K, Noctua NH-D14 Cooler, Crucial 32GB DDR4 2133, Samsung 950 Pro NVMe 256GB, Samsung EVO 250GB & 500GB SSD, 2TB Caviar Black, Zotac GTX 1080 AMP! Extreme 8GB, Corsair HX1000i, Phillips BDM4065UC 40" 4k monitor, VX2258 TouchScreen, TIR 5 w/ProClip, TM Warthog, VKB Gladiator Pro, Saitek X56, et. al., MFG Crosswind Pedals #1199, VolairSim Pit, Rift CV1

Thanks. After watching some of the YouTube demos, I have to agree. It is a game changer for the home enthusiast.

I decided on the TrackIR-5 and it is on order. I saw where you could build your own with some parts but do not wish to get into that at the moment. Can't wait to get it. Should be fun! (I'll keep extra underwear handy just in case. :))
