jonatron5 Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 Pretty straightforward question, I wanted to take advantage of the sales they have going on at the DCS store right now, I want to get the Migs :) . I checked the steam store first, and the steam store isn't participating in the sale, I was going to purchase off of the DCS store but I wasn't sure If I would have some renewing/compatibility issues trying to redeem them on the steam version. (after all, the steam store doesn't offer all of the content
Vampyre Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 None of them will work with steam. You have to have the standalone DCS World to use the store products. Truly superior pilots are those that use their superior judgment to avoid those situations where they might have to use their superior skills. If you ever find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck! "If at first you don't succeed, Carrier Landings are not for you!"
cichlidfan Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 The only exception being keys that were purchased before Steam stopped merging them. June or July, 2014, IIRC. So, as Vampyre said, no, for the current sale products. ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero, i7-6700K, Noctua NH-D14 Cooler, Crucial 32GB DDR4 2133, Samsung 950 Pro NVMe 256GB, Samsung EVO 250GB & 500GB SSD, 2TB Caviar Black, Zotac GTX 1080 AMP! Extreme 8GB, Corsair HX1000i, Phillips BDM4065UC 40" 4k monitor, VX2258 TouchScreen, TIR 5 w/ProClip, TM Warthog, VKB Gladiator Pro, Saitek X56, et. al., MFG Crosswind Pedals #1199, VolairSim Pit, Rift CV1
=DECOY= Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 You could download the standalone version and migrate your existing modules to the standalone. then purchase the modules you want in the sale. Water cooled i9-9900K | Maximus Code XI MB | RTX3090 | 64GB | HP Reverb G2
jonatron5 Posted September 25, 2016 Author Posted September 25, 2016 Well that is truly a pain in the behind. Question. IS steam going to continue to add DCS content as it s released? or are they done? Because if there done I need to go ahead and transfer to the standalone
cichlidfan Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 (edited) Well that is truly a pain in the behind. Question. IS steam going to continue to add DCS content as it s released? or are they done? Because if there done I need to go ahead and transfer to the standalone Content will continue to be added with respect to ED, and at the discretion of the company (in the case of 3rd parties). I would expect everyone else to continue using Steam, as well, since it comprises a significant part of the customer base. The issue with keys purchased from ED is a completely separate issue which has to do with Steam spending time, and money, merging database entries from sales at ED's store. However, unless you feel that Steam is necessary, I would highly recommend considering the standalone version. New products will be available to you more quickly, and, if you are willing to use the disk space, you can run the Alpha and Beta releases as well, with no conflicts. Should you decide to try the standalone version, it is worth noting that it will use your existing Saved Games folder so that resetting everything will not be required. Here is a guide for registering your keys to the ED version. This has nothing to do with activation as the modules that you own are already active in your registry and will be used when you install the standalone version. No further activations will be used by this process. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B-uSpZROuEd3WTFnVnlaeWdFQkk&authuser=0 Note: I did not create the linked file.
