Greetings everyone. I am currently stuck with my crappy laptop, yet I still wish to enjoy this game, at least somewhat. Trees and buildings are the biggest drag on frame rate right now for me. I don't want to get rid of buildings, yet I am willing to completely remove trees. The in game graphics options don't have an option for this. Thus, what files must I alter to remove trees?

Than you for any assistance in this matter.

I don't think You can remove them completely. What mostly kills the performance is the way they're shaded, though, and You can do something about it by using Mustang's modded no-shadow trees:

(extract directly to the game as instructed in linked message, or use them via JSGME by creating the same folder tree Yourself and placing files over there).

Also, turn "flat terrain shadows" option on, should give You a few frames as well.

Interesting as I get better FPS with flat terrain shadows off. Why would enabling this feature improve FPS?

IIRC,

Flat terrain shadows = Off (gives you fully rendered shadows)

Flat terrain shadows = On (gives you simple flat shadows)

I will give this a try. Thank you. I'm running 1.54. Maybe 2.0 would give better fps?

I'll try it again and watch the FPS.

Also I have all references to shadows [left side of the options page] turned off.

I think then, it doesn't matter "terrain shadows on or off" if you have them turned completely off altogether? Can someone verify this, please?

Re. 1.5 vs 2.0 question. People with powerful rigs and modern 9xx, 10xx cards report 2.0 running better than 1.5, but for me and others with older hardware, it's exactly the other way around. You would certainly fall into latter category, especially when 2.0 is way, WAY more VRAM and RAM-consuming version.

With flat terrain shadows off [and shadows off on the left side] my FPS is higher by about 2-3 FPS than if I have flat terrain shadows on [and shadows off on the left side].

This is the way it always tested through various versions.

Go to C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Mods\terrains\CaucasusBase\Structures\High\EDM\

move all files with "tree" in the name to a new subfolder.

That stops the bulk of the forests loading.

it doesnt work there is still their shadow on morning and dusk i did everything right selected flat terrain shadow on and main shadow is medium but i dont want to decrease normal shadows because of those stupid trees

Most graphical settings should be configured from the UI, like they are in 99.9% of all other modern games...welcome to the world of DCS.

This is an issue in so many games. It's ridiculous. For example in the latter Total War games, in order to turn off the crappy camera shake, players have to do so manually in the graphics files.

Hmm, just checked again, your right the shadows are still there, but it seems to remove the trees from the largest areas...who knows the best solution :dunno:

You'd think a game that had so many fps issues with graphics & trees would have a more user friendly way of dealing with it.

...just have to hammer at it and get the best you can.

we should wait 2.5

What i do is go to C:\Users"username"\Saved Games\DCS\Config\options.lua

and change the value of line 72 treesVisibility to -15000 , but that only gets rid of the forest trees, not the city trees.

...I'm not sure how/if this affects anything but also set your treesVisibility to "0" in the options.lua

["treesVisibility"] = 0,

You have to set it to something like -10000 because at low altitude they start to fade in if you set it to "0".
