Menessis Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 I put together a little training miz to learn and practice the Bulls Offset. I put 4 groups for targets. Measure from bulls in the editor and make a note of the Bearing and Range. Put all the info on the F10 menu. My problem is the targets are around 5 deg. off? Any idea as to why this is????? Thanks Menessis
Yurgon Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 My problem is the targets are around 5 deg. off? Any idea as to why this is????? Actually it should be more like 6 degrees. :smartass: It's caused by magnetic variation. In the Caucasus region this is typically 6 degrees. IIRC the mission editor and the F10 map show true north, while the aircraft instruments use magnetic north, hence the difference.
baltic_dragon Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 To add to that, the bullseye calls made by the AI units also use true north rather than a magnetic one. Markeebo Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 Is there a way for the CDU to reference true rather than mag north? Can't remember Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Menessis Posted September 27, 2016 Author Posted September 27, 2016 (edited) So i guess i just need to subtract 6 from the bullseye call. Fixed ;) Edited September 28, 2016 by Menessis
Markeebo Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 CDU Offset Training Miz Or ADD. Need to see if it's plus or minus deviation. I just looked and it's 5 deg East. If my skooling is correct that's a minus 5 from true. That's Batumi (UGSB) deviation. Don't know where you're setting this up so ymmv. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Menessis Posted September 28, 2016 Author Posted September 28, 2016 Well the "mark" was off to the right, so I would subtract to move it left.

Menessis Posted October 6, 2016 Author Posted October 6, 2016 If an AI JTAC is making the call is it already adjusted?
jcbak Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 In the real world, are offsets given for target locations? Any real world JTAC training that I've listened to uses MGRS.
