Angus Posted October 9, 2016 Posted October 9, 2016 Hi ! I wonder why some planes have night vision goggles and other not. it would be really good to make them available for all modern aircraft. No ? :) on the F15 C to keep eye on wingmen and see the tanker... In F5E to conduct attacks overnight at low altitudes! :smilewink: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
QuiGon Posted October 9, 2016 Posted October 9, 2016 (edited) No, it would not! Not all all modern (what exactly is "modern"?) aircraft are night vision compatible. Ozr Mirage 2000C for example is not compatible with NV in real life (cockpit lighting and instruments) and I prefer this game to keep it realistic. That's even more true for the 3rd gen aircraft (MiG-21, F-5). probad Posted October 9, 2016 Posted October 9, 2016 agreed with quigon. a better suggestion is improved lighting models for more realistic nighttime visibility. but we ought to wait for 2.5 to hit first.
Angus Posted October 9, 2016 Author Posted October 9, 2016 in real life , Tomcats pilots use binoculars for AFAC missions. In game we can use Zoom for "simulate" that possibility. I do not know if the night vision goggles must have a specification for use in an aircraft ... one can imagine that fit those of a soldier on a pilot's helmet. i you want to be 100% accurate with real life , dont use this .i understand that  1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

The cockpit lightning and instruments are the problem. They need to be designed for use with NV. It might not be a problem in the sim, because the lightning is different here, but it is in real life. Short story: Our Tornados have been deployed the anti-IS mission one year ago and first they weren't able to fly with NVGs, because the cockpit was incompatible with NV. So they had to remove all the lights (including instrument lights) and install NV compatible ones. That took some weeks IIRC and now they are able to fly with NVGs. Slazi Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 in real life , Tomcats pilots use binoculars for AFAC missions. In game we can use Zoom for "simulate" that possibility. No we can't. The zoom feature in DCS is there to make up for the inadequacies of viewing the world through a tiny monitor at low resolution - something it barely manages. It's still extremely difficult to see targets. Proper binoculars should be added, especially for helicopters.
