HoYa Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 I'm a pretty good cyber pilot but DCS fc3 mid air refueling is insane!! I've been at it for about an hour and a half a day for four days and I've connected once for about five seconds. Is this normal or do I secretly suck ??:pilotfly:
GGTharos Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 You blatantly suck, nothing secret about it ;) Anyway, some factors are: * Stick setup. If your stick is spiking, this alone will cause you a lot of trouble. Could even be un-manageable. * Not watching the tanker. If you're staring at the boom or at the numbers on your HUD, or the VVI you're doing it wrong. Make sure you have tanker visual references against your aircraft airframe, ie. your canopy bow etc. There's a whole bunch of other stuff too. Anyway, here's an informal example you can look at if you like: 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
HoYa Posted October 26, 2016 Author Posted October 26, 2016 How the hell do you keep the tanker from bouncing up and down ??! Btw, good flying, little jealous....
Gladman Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 You'll need some good curves on your stick and use 3 fingers. A constant back and forth on the throttle also helps. Very small movements to keep airspeed. We have some general curves on our website in the gallery. GGTharos Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 It isn't me. As for the tanker, this tanker is just in a climb to altitude ... there's no reason for it to bounce up and down. Perhaps you should show your troubles :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda

NeilWillis Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 What do you mean by "curves"?? Curves are the things surrounding a woman that make her irresistible. In fact, curves in this context are settings you can add to a joystick axis that will alter the inputs you make, and either reduce, or increase control surface movements for a given input. You can edit them via the controls section.
Gladman Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 NeilWillis is correct. Women have amazing curves. Seriously though, his statement is correct. The curves really make a huge difference to your ability to control the axis of the aircraft in smaller increments when performing tasks such as AA refueling and formation flying. The throttle curves allow for a more accurate control at speeds required for the same tasks. Give them a try and you'll see what I mean. Its a huge part of being able to perform the tasks. A couple guys in my squad are pilots/boom operators/etc and they have helped us with the proper "feel" of the aircraft we fly as well as exceptional points such as the 3 fingers (two fingers and a thumb) on the stick to allow for better control. Its what made all the difference for me. i9 9900K @ 5.1Ghz - ASUS Maximus Hero XI - 32GB 4266 DDR4 RAM - ASUS RTX 2080Ti - 1 TB NVME - NZXT Kraken 62 Watercooling System - Thrustmaster Warthog Hotas (Virpil Base) - MFG Crosswind Pedals - Pimax 5K+ VFA-25 Fist Of The Fleet [sigpic]http://forums.eagle.ru/signaturepics/sigpic99190_2.gif[/sigpic] Virtual Carrier Strike Group 1 | Discord
probad Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 you have to be patient with your corrections, especially in pitch. because theres a delay between when you input a command and when it starts 'taking', if you try to kneejerk corrections you will usually end up in-phase with your existing oscillations. going out of phase to cancel pitch oscillation typically involves counterintuitively commanding pitch in the same direction as the current pitching motion.
Baz000 Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 do those curves work with any FC3 aircraft? Or is it only for the ones you guys fly?
DarkFire Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 do those curves work with any FC3 aircraft? Or is it only for the ones you guys fly? You can specify input curves for all aircraft. Each aircraft can have its own separate input curvatures. It's heavily dependant on what you like the feel of, and what hardware you use, but most people use curvature values of between 15 & 25 for pitch & roll. Baz000 Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 I was talking about the values used from that guy's squadron
