I was waiting that since some years now. In fact, from the beginnings of DCS after flaming cliffs:

Since the last update, the AI wingmen FINALLY !!!! FINALLY!!!!!!are flying close the player. I was dreaming about that since many years now ! It's more realistic.

Yes

Now you can see more options in the radio menu about formations and the AI wingmen are flying near the player, if you ask combat formation or other. I've tested with the Mirage 2000.

So this is a new formation choice I need to make? Was flying last night and my wingman was still way out in the distance. Not home now to see if new options exist.

i haven't noticed AI wingmen flying close with most of the other planes (don't have mirage). can others confirm? how close we talkin here?

Thanks for the information, these are really good improvements - haven't tried it yet. So far, I know what's to do todays evening : -).

Currently I'm learning the M2K Module - its just awesome and v e r y interesting.

I'm really hopening that ED goes on in such a good way and that our DCS becomes better and better. Very keen on furhter updates :-)

You can use advanced waypoint options to set a formation for any flight, including a player one.

In-sim, I believe only the full fidelity modules offer the advanced formation options. FC3 jets can ask for close, far, echelon, line, or trail IIRC.

Thank you for this very helpful information - 'm pretty new in DCS BUT willingly to learn all the stuff :smartass:
