Hi

About the Gazelle

I hope someone can help me with this.

When I want to hover up and down behind a hill the helicopter will not increase altitude. (I use collective on/off) "C"

I use a Logitech 3d Pro but can never give more than 2/3 of full throttle before the red light on the dashboard comes up. So it is almost impossible "sneak" up behind the hill.

(sorry for my bad English)

Is it supposed to be like that or is it something I do wrong?

(I use "game mode" easy options)

I can't say how the chopper behaves in Game Flight Mode, but generally speaking if it's too heavy, it can't gain altitude in a hover. It's normal that you will overtorque the engine if you pull too much collective.

Try with lighter load (fewer missiles, less fuel) and see if it behaves differently.

In forward flight, the rotor blades don't work in their own downwash and are much more efficient, that's why you should be able to easily climb in forward flight, even if you can't get the thing to even maintain altitude in a hover. ;)

Also, hot and high (hot temperature, high altitude) negatively affect all aircraft's flight characteristics; if you fly the same profile at lower altitude or with lower outside air temperature, it's quite possible that the chopper will perform a lot better.

Hello Yurgon

Thank you for the answer :)

It can be the fuel. I play in easy mode with unlimited fuel so I guess the fuel tank always are full.

The Gazelle have carries max four missiles so I guess it is not too heavy.

Guess I need to practice a bit more :)

It's a pretty light helicopter, so the missiles really add a lot of weight.

According to the mission editor, when the Sa-342M is loaded with 4 HOT missiles and 100% fuel, it's actually above max gross weight (and that is without air filter and IR deflector). Fuel needs to be lowered to 71% in order to get the chopper to 100% max gross weight, and I'd probably aim for 50% fuel or less in order to get some maneuverability reserves. ;)

Thanks again Yurgon

You're right. :)

This simulator is more realistic that I though it was LOL

But it is great! I use easy mode because I dont have time to put myself into all the stuff. But you helped me a lot with this.

I mostly make easy missions so me and my friend can use together once in a while, but now I will put more attention to the fuel and weapon cargo :)

Have a great weekend :)

Yurgon answers everything perfectly, I am sure you have the fuel maxxed, but as Yurgon says, be very aware of altitude and temperature... they can absolutely kill a choppers performance.
