Mission 9: lead & Saxon flight do not move

Yep loading another mission first works. Was a little messy with the radio channels. One told me he would inform me on main frequency so I turned red to channel 2 for AWACS but seems he kept talking me on red 1 so I had to quickly change back and missed one message. But nice mission.

Any fix for the problem? Just encountered this on the 9th mission.

Tried starting another mission before playing mission 9 but no luck.

Do you have to start mission 9, abandon, play another mission then start mission 9 for it to work?

EDIT: Nevermind got it. For me I actually had to play the campaign mission first, abandon it and start it again for it to work.

Yeah, it's getting to the point I'm drawing pentagrams and performing a little dance while throwing salt behind my shoulder before starting a mission ;) Hope they find out what it is.

Try the work-around in post 17.

No fix yet, many missions in DCS are suffering from this bug.

I think if you are really desperate you can make all the flight start in air in over the airfield, but at different alts - the mission should progress as normal. Change your flight to parking hot start so you don't miss any dialogues and you should be good to go!

Thanks, Baltic. I think I am going to wait until the next DCS update comes out to see if I get lucky. I have never dealt with the mission editor and I don't have a lot of free time to mess around with it.

You will love this.

I just tried once more and it failed to start again. Then I wondered whether it could be failing only the first time the mission is run after booting DCS... I saved the track (easier than doing the start-up every time...) and sure enough, when I play it the first time after launching DCS, the Saxon flight doesn't start (which seems to be the first clue here).

If I play it again, they start right away, I can see their head lights, the engine starting, and they begin taxiing.

Redglyph,

Did exactly like that to make it run.

Ran first time, do deal. Quit, I ran it for the second time and worked fine. A bit of mix up with comms, but worked.

Thank you for the tip.

All the best,

Sydy

Hey, I will try to upload a version with a temporary workaround in the campaign updates form.

Thank you, Baltic! That would be awesome!

And done. I moved Saxon around, see if that helps.

Added updated, alternative version of M9 in the main thread for those who experience bug with AI not taxiing (which does not happen to everyone). Make sure to rename the mission (remove ALT part) before copying it into your campaign directory.

Baltic, I downloaded the new miz file and put in the campaign folder, removed "ALT". I had already removed the original miz file from the folder.

I made two attempts and both times saxon and IP start on the ground and still won't taxi.

Hi Kashmir,

Don't make two individual tries... Start the mission, leader will fail to start. Stop it, don't leave DCS, start it again right after. This time it will work. Don't ask me why... It works... LOL

That's how I made it.

I have tried that method several times with no luck. Baltic made a version of the mission where the flights are already on the move at mission start to get around this issue but when I used the new version they were all still on the ground and would not move.

Thank you!

Is there any data I can provide on the failures to help you diagnose the issue?

Don't think so as it happens in different campaigns, guess the ball is in ED's garden here... especially that it did not happen to everyone. It certainly never happened to me, nor to any of my beta testers...

OK, let me know if that changes. I hope to be able to give it a go tonight.

So I tried again today with the alternate mission file and it worked! First time on a fresh boot of DCS. I have no explanation as I didn't change anything else. Thank you!
