Once used for a range measure, I see the laser spot in my NVG but can't switch the laser off. Maybe a user error.

Let me know

yep I know that's the laser range finder. But is that normal that it stays on ? Should it only be visible when one fires to laser to get a range reading ?

Have you tried to shut off the master arm switch?

But I agree, it should only be on when the laser is fired.

I've also noticed that on NVGs, when you turn the sensor, a ghost image of where the laser was last placed, remains and sparkles. Despite the laser moving with the sensor.

Yes. But laser remains on

Yes. Laser always stays on, even if you are not using it. This has been a controversy in several threads but it finally sounds like it is not a bug. It is realistic to see the laser through your NVG. The wavelength used is part of what the NVG can deal with. Yes, it is a little strange IRL to have your laser on all the time from a detect-ability point of view.

I guess we have all been traumatized by the short life of the Ka50 laser that you were not able to repair once burnt during many years in BlackShark 1 and 2.

Hi BaD CrC

I don't dispute seeing the IR laser in the NVGs. I'm just saying it's a little odd that once turn on, laser can't be turned off. There isn't any technical reasons justifying it. A diode laser stops lasing once you remove the power. Some engineers friends at Thales never heard of such behaviour for a laser range finder. (disclaimer: they aren't themselves involved in that system)
