I planned to wait for 2.5 before building my PC - but the XO has approved some funds right now, so I just had to spent it, before she changes her mind.

This PC will become my gaming rig, mainly for flying.

So I went with:

- I5 7600k

- Asus Prime Z270-A

- 500 GB Crucial SSD

- 32 GB 2400 DDR4 Ram

- KFA GTX 1070

- BenQ XL2720T 120Hz Monitor

And:

- a PSVR Headset (I just have to try TrinusVR with DCS)

I'll start building the PC tommorow. Wish me luck!

Windows 10 64bit, Intel i9-9900@5Ghz, 32 Gig RAM, MSI RTX 3080 TI, 2 TB SSD, 43" 2160p@1440p monitor.

Thats what my shopping list is looking like though only the MoBo CPU and RAM to replace my loved but ageing 920 and X58 chipset:)

Can you explain the reasoning behind your choice of the Prime-A

Let us know how it goes please

After 3 broken High-End Z170 boards I totally understand your pick !!!

Simple, less, more reliable..and less $ too...but more fun !

Probably because of the price and the 8 phase power (DIGI+VRM). The "A" is always a good choice.

Price and availability were the main reason and the audio capabilities.

Amazon failed to delliver the SSD yesterday, so I upgraded to the 1050GB version of the drive from a local dealer. I think the 525GB would not have offered enough space for all the nice maps we'll get anyway.

Assembling was very easy and even the installation of Windows 10 Pro went without a glitch. Next step will be to put the PC and monitor from the living room into my study and connect and install all the peripherals.

If I get a refund for my "extreme" board(s) I will go with that exact motherboard !!!

1/3 the price and I bet it wont oc 1 MHz lesser than a 500€ board !

Forget the extras if they tilt the boards every time I stress them :) Long live simplicity :)

Everything is working perfectly. All the peripherals installed without hickups. DCS A-10C instant action Georgia Spring runs very smooth locked @120. Vsync is on. Low over Batumi the fps dip to 80. For me that is perfectly fine.

I did install the TrinusVR and hooked up the PSVR headset. I got it working with DCS but for me it's not useable atm. The cockpit looks like it's from a miniature jet, HUD is not readable, the VR mouse cross always present. In the Huey the copilot looks like a playdoll and everything in the cockpit looks tiny. On the upside sensation of flying is definitely there.

Need to change my sig, asap.

Congrats mate. Makes it all the more harder for me to wait for AMD Ryzen before making a decision between the blue and red team.

We are all looking that direction !

There is no red or blue team, just PC's that either work great or don't.

Let's hope we soon have two choices for rather equal money and performance.

Who would not love to have that ?
