grunf Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 MiG-21 is designed as high altitude interceptor, its radar is not efficient below 3000m.

shab249 Posted January 24, 2017 Author Posted January 24, 2017 ammm i can someone move it to the mig-21 forum
Art-J Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 Some guys suggest the "upside down" bug of the MiG's radar is back in current version again. Haven't tested that yet, but maybe that's the source of the problem. i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10.
firmek Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 there is no efficent and there is "cant detect c-130 below 2000m" As Grunf already noted MiG-21 bis radar should not be able to distinguish targets from a ground noise at low altitudes. Below 2000m there might be a slight chance but only with antenna tilted up and plane placed 300-500 below the target. Further down it should be generally not possible, especially below 1500-1000m. The fact of not being able to detect target is correct then, otherwise if it would be possible to see targets on the radar and lock them in consistent manner on such low altitude then it would be a bug. IX, Bf 109 4-K, UH-1H, Mi-8, Ka-50, NTTR, Normandy, Persian Gulf... and not enough time to fully enjoy it all

I was at 500m with my antena up and a c-130 was at 1500m and i didnt got him on my radar Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk

shab249 Posted January 26, 2017 Author Posted January 26, 2017 It is. I accidentally found that out a couple of weeks ago. Yea i do that too but it's not a bug the radar antena is 20 and something ° up and 1.5 or 2.5 down but if you go upside down you use the up area as low altitude scanner Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
Vatikus Posted January 26, 2017 Posted January 26, 2017 Yea i do that too but it's not a bug the radar antena is 20 and something ° up and 1.5 or 2.5 down but if you go upside down you use the up area as low altitude scanner That is a bug... the reason antenna is tilted up is to minimize noise from ground return, so rolling upside down should completely saturate your screen with noise ... this is not a doppler radar.
