6. NOSPITOTRÖRSSKYDD

Vertical stab (1) and nose (6) pitot tube protectors (I assume they're the usual "Remove before flight" flags)

Before Engine Start

8. BENFIXERING ............ ANSLUTEN (Leg fixation ....... connected?)

Sounds like some kind of foot fetish :P I'd use "Leg restraints". Connected or attached.

Before Take-Off

1. RIKTA IN FPL

Start

2. EBK (Afterburner?)

1: It basically means "align plane with runway"

2: Yup. EBK = Efterbrännkammare = afterburner.

I'll translate the full lines on each point you've listed, not just the parts you've copied. In some cases I've gone to the more detailed checklist (with more than just mnemonics) in the SFI to clarify what's going on.

Visual Inspection:

1. FENPITOTRÖRSSKYDD

3. H APP-RUM ............ INSTÄLLNING (H is starboard)

5. SAXLÄNK .............. KOPPLAD

6. NOSPITOTRÖRSSKYDD

1. Tailfin pitot tube protective cover --- Removed

3. Starboard equipment compartment --- Settings

5. Nose gear torque link --- Connected

6. Nose pitot tube protective cover --- Removed

Before Engine Start

Fpl klargjort (Fpl - Aircraft?)

3. SKYDD ........... FAST

8. BENFIXERING ............ ANSLUTEN (Leg fixation ....... connected?)

9. INDIKERINGSLAMPOR (INDICATION LIGHTS or WARNING LIGHTS?)

14. FASTNIMDNING

18. NÖDSTRÖMSTÄLLARE

56. SKYDDSMASKLADÅDA

58. FUNCTIONAL TEST SELECTOR A .... ÖVRIG EL NIK

63. JAKTATTACKVÄLJARE

64. SIKTNINGSVÄLJARE

68. NÖDPANEL

Fpl = short for "flygplan", so "A/C" which is what you typically shorten "aircraft" to is a good translation here.

A/C prepared for flight

(I don't know the proper aeronautical English term for this - the Swedish word is military aero jargon for an aircraft that has been gone over by the ground crew as per procedures, fueled and armed.)

3. HUD camera/forehead cover --- Fixed in position (the Rka, "registerkamera" is not implemented in DCS, and the "forehead cover" is the big bit of plastic just under the HUD with a big emergency procedures label on it)

8. Leg restraints --- Connected (leg restraints for the ejection seat, "fastened" would also work instead of "connected")

9. Warning lights --- As desired (It is referring to the warning lights but I don't know what they mean by "as desired" at all)

14. Strap in

18. Ventilation:

* Temp --- As desired

* Mode switch --- AUT

* Emergency switch --- TILL

31. Reconnaissance mode switch --- As desired (The F after the number on the checklist indicates that this is a AJSF 37 only item. The switch only exists on the photo recon version.)

32. Radar stick --- Parked

38. I-ind/sight switch --- As desired (Again, AJSF 37 only. "Ind" stands for indicator but I dunno what exactly the switch does or what the I-ind is for)

40. CI light hood --- fixed (H = AJSH 37 only. The hood is just a plastic cover mounted above the radar screen, shading it a bit so it's easier to see details in bright sunlight.)

49. Frequency control --- As desired (AJSH 37 only, again)

50. Radar series/Box --- As desired (AJSH 37 only again, but RUTA means "box" or "rectangle" and is used in the nav system on the AJS 37 as well)

55. GPU-powered flight suit ventilation temperature --- As desired

56. Gas mask stowage bin --- Locked

58. Self-test switch A --- Position ÖVRIG EL NIK ("other electronics")

63. Weapon selector --- As desired (The weapon selector is sometimes referred to as a "J/A-väljare" or "jaktattackväljare", or in English an air-to-air/air-to-ground selector, kinda)

64. Aiming selector --- As desired (For some reason the knob that controls bomb intervals, wingspan ranging in the HUD and illumination bomb alignment is called an "aiming selector")

68. Emergency panel --- All switches down

Engine Start

1. Kontakt (what means Kontakt in this situation?)

2. START SWITCH ........ ON (HOLD 2 SECONDS), TERSA <-?

3. IF EXCEEDED, SNABB ACC ÖVER MTG ELLER VARV < 50 %

1. Contact (Give the ground crew chief the "contact" hand sign, so he knows you're going to be starting the engine - yes, the hand sign and the terminology goes back to old prop planes where the mechanic had to turn the prop over by hand to start the engine)

2. Start switch --- TILL, hold 2 seconds, start the aircraft stopwatch (The stopwatch function on the aircraft clock is called a "tersur" for some reason, possibly because it uses a third hand or something, I dunno, it's a fairly cryptic word even to a native Swedish speaker)

3. Check:

* Warning light STARTSYST --- On within 5 s

- If not, start switch --- FRÅN

* Exhaust temp --- Max 400°C

- In case of overheating, quick acceleration past ground idle (MTG, "marktomgång") or RPM < 50%

- Throttle --- To engine cutoff position

- Start switch --- FRÅN

Before Taxi

8. OBS Ö-TEMP KAPSL

8. Check pod overheating (AJSH 37 only, dunno what pod it's referring to, there are several possible)

Shutdown

12. SÄRKOPPLING

14. KUPÉTECKEN

12. Remove straps (The ones that hold you to the seat, that is. You say "strap in", but is "strap out" actually a thing?)

13. Engine shutdown sign (Give the ground crew chief the engine shutdown handsign; this tells him it's safe to approach the aircraft and refueling/rearming can begin - once this is done you are no longer supposed to touch any switches in cockpit or use the radio, for the safety of the ground crew)

Data Input

5. KONTRA VID BEHOV (BANA UT)

GRÄNS(ER) MOT BRYTPUNKT

9. ID-NR (<-?)

UPPDRAG ......... OCH DIVNR PÅ B1 DATUM PÅ B2

15. CHECK TIME TO PÅDRAG

CHECK TIME TO MÅLET

5. Data panel selector in the BANA/GRÄNS mode:

* Runway heading and TILS channel

* Flip runway heading to opposite direction if necessary (mnemonic "BANA UT"; BANA/GRÄNS mode, I/O switch UT, press button L MÅL)

* Ingress/egress borders(s) for each waypoint

9. Data panel selector in the ID-NR mode: (For IFF, not implemented in DCS)

* Mission and squadron number on waypoint button B1

* Date on button B2

15. Data selector in the TID mode:

* Check time to throttle up

* Check time on target

17. READING OUT (READ OFF?) SKUGGNINGSDATA

ÅTERUPPREPA

Right, so this is pretty complicated. When flying radar recon missions (master mode SPA), target position and movement is recorded by taking radar fixes on the target position repeatedly. These fixes are numbered R1 to R10 and to see/read out the recorded data on the data panel you first press the LS/SKU button, then the waypoint button corresponding to the fix number you want to see, then press the fix trigger to the first detent and release it (T1-T0) to see the recorded latitude. Then do T1-T0 again to see longitude, then repeat the same thing again ("återupprepa") to see target course and speed between fixes as calculated by the computer.

No idea if all that is implemented in DCS or not.

When you start the chrono at the moment of engine strart, what is then the item (10) in the before take-off checklist?

Flygtidsur - STARTA?

8. BENFIXERING ............ ANSLUTEN (Leg fixation ....... connected?)

When towing some aircraft, you DISCONNECT the nosewheel from the hydraulic actuator that turns the wheel under normal operation. If you forget this then one of two things will most likely happen: The cheap outcome, you break the tow-bar when you start turning. The not-so-cheap outcome is that you destroy the actuator. I suspect this warning is to alert you that the ground crew has forgot to re-connect the nosewheel strut to the actuator.

How did I come to this conclusion? I've done this operation a "few" times on the F-16...

This is the same on the Viggen, but 'Benfixering' has nothing to do with that :)

This is the straps that you connect to the boots, so they will be retracted from the rudderpedals in case of ejection.

Edit: What you are reffering to is called 'Saxlänk nosställ - KOPPLAD" in the checklist.

Flygtidsur - STARTA?

The stopwatch at engine start is just so you can measure those "within 5 seconds, check that..." points exactly rather than just by feel. "Flygtidsur" is for measuring the flight time for the sake of the logbook; you start it when you take off and stop it after you've landed.

And what means RESP 2 under point 8 from the data input checklist?

"Resp" is short for "respektive", so "kod 1 resp 2" means "code 1 and 2, respectively".

6. KOORD FÖR RUTA

KOORD FÖR "RÖDA M" PÅ MÅL + ÖNSKAD SIFFERK 1-9 (EN TRYCKNING LO RESO LA)

17.SKUGGNINGSDATA

6. Coordinates for RUTA ("ruta" = box or rectangle, in this case it refers to boundaries used for the target area, defining where the ingress and egress points are etc)

Coordinates for "red M" waypoint on target + desired number button (one press each on lon/lat respectively) (When in master mode SPA, you can record target positions in the computer with a procedure similar to making target fixes with the radar in master mode ANF, and these target points are shown in the destination indicator with a red M plus waypoint number, rather than the regular white M plus waypoint number.)

17. Shadowing data (Again, "shadowing" is the term used for target following in master mode SPA by periodically fixing its position with the radar)

BEREDSKAP (STANDBY?)

FÖRE UPPDRAG (BEFORE MISSION?)

MOTORBEREDSKAP

HÖGSTA BEREDSKAP

BATTERIBEREDSKAP

FÖRE STARTORDER

UTVÄXLA KONTAKTTECKEN

BEREDSKAPSÄNDRING (STANDBY MODIFICATION?)

MEK (MECHANIC?)

NÖDSTART (SCRAMBLE?)

"Före uppdrag" is "before mission", just as you say.

Beredskap is "readiness", more or less. Standby could work too, not sure what English-speaking air forces call it. The aircraft is parked, usually near the runway, prepared for the mission and with the pilot (or at least a pilot, not necessarily the same one as the one who will fly the mission in the end) seated in the cockpit with at least parts of the checklist done, but has not received a start order yet. There were several different levels of readiness, which we'll get to.

Motorberedskap (literally "engine readiness") is the highest possible level of readiness. The aircraft is parked with the engine running in ground idle, canopy closed and all checklists up to and including "before taxi" done. The intent is that when the order to scramble is given, the pilot can just put the oxygen mask on, throttle up, roll out to the end of the runway and immediately take off. After 50 minutes in this state you connect the refueling equipment and run the pumps for about 1 minute to keep the tanks topped up. This can be repeated again after another 40 minutes.

Högsta beredskap ("highest readiness") is not actually the highest readiness since the engine isn't running, but is otherwise similar. The "before engine start" checklist and any data input is done, and the pilot is seated in the aircraft with main power on and ground power connected.

Batteriberedskap ("battery readiness") I'm a bit unclear on, but as far as I understand it, it's just highest readiness but without ground power connected.

Före startorder just means "before start order", or "before order to take off".

Utväxla kontakttecken = exchange "contact" handsigns (with the ground crew).

Beredskapsändring = change of readiness level (from highest to engine readiness, or vice versa).

Mek is short for "mechanic" but refers to the ground crew in general or more specifically the ground crew chief.

Nödstart = "emergency takeoff". This is not a regular scramble, it's what happens if you're about to get bombed while the aircraft is in the process of being turned around, refueled or otherwise worked on by the ground crew. You abort the turn around procedure and just try to get in the air ASAP.

I'll get back to the rest later this afternoon.

RECEIVABLES

1. PLUNDRING

"Receivables" is a funny translation - it's technically correct, but it's the economical sense of the word ("accounts receivable"), which is not what it means here. A correct translation in this context is "prerequisites".

"Plundring" literally means "sacking" or "pillaging", but in military context it refers to emptying a weapon of any unfired ammunition, so in this case, what they mean is removing any remaining weapons or weapon mounts from the aircraft pylons.

UNDER INKÖRNING (DURING THE RUN?)

3. VERIFY THE REQUIREMENTS AS ABOVE ARE MET. ANMÄL TILL FL/VB OM SNABBTANKNING INTE KANN UTFÖRAS.

Another technically correct translation that's incorrect in context. "Inkörning" refers to taxiing in from the runway to to the refueling station.

3. Verify the prerequisites above are met. Report to ATC or the officer on duty if quick refueling cannot be carried through.

Before Refueling

3. KONTROLLERA SAMBAND MED MEK. MEDDELA AV ÄNDRAD TANKNINGSMÄNGD.

3. Check communication with ground crew (as in, check that you can talk to them via the ground connection wire). Inform ground crew of any change in desired fuel amount.

Refueling

1. KONTROLLERA ATT LAMPFÄLTEN BRÄ UPPF OCH TANKPUMP ÄR TÄNDA

2. HÅLL (ÖGON) SAMBAND MED MEK. PÅKALLA VID BEHOC MEK UPPMÄRKSAMHET GENOM FÖRSIKTIGA VARVTALSÄNDERINGAR.

1. Check that the warning lights BRÄ UPPF and TANKPUMP are lit.

2. Maintain (eye-)contact with ground crew chief. If necessary, call on ground crew's attention by carefully changing the engine RPM.

The reason for that last one (RPM changes to attract ground crew attention) and the hand signs is that while quick refueling is normally done while in contact with the ground crew over the wired connection, you can do it without that as well and in that case you use the handsigns provided.

After Refueling

5. ITF-TABLÅER

This one baffles me, actually. I don't know what it's referring to. I suspect it's the warning lights, but something's "off" here. I'll see if I can investigate further.

MEK AVBRYTER KLRGÖRING PÅ SNABBASTE SÄTT.

Ground crew aborts preparations in the quickest way possible.

Basically, shit is hitting the fan, and ground crew should only do the absolutely essential stuff ("pull safeties, pull chocks" type things) and GTFO, plane should probably do the same... ;)

I have asked around and it is the caution lights. The Viggen pilot I asked couldn't quite remember but he said that caution light checks normally included pressing the caution light panel test button. He thinks ITF is short for "Indikeringstablå Funktion". That translates to "Indication Panel Function (or test). and means the panels with the caution and warning lights, which also contains normal indications such as landinggear and speedbrake, hence the name "indication panel" and not Caution/warning panel.

EMERGENCY START

2. MEK AVBRYTER KLRGÖRING PÅ SNABBASTE SÄTT. FÖRDRÖNING 30 - 90 s

Ground crew aborts turnaround ASAP (as soon as possible). Delay 30 - 90 s

- NÖDSTART FÅR SKE I GSE VID VERKLING FARA

Emergency takeoff may be performed without flight control stabilizer in case of apparent danger.

(GSA=Grundstyrsystem. I.e. The un-stabilized flight controls before SPAK/ATT/HÖJD is engaged)

Btw.: What do you think about if i replace "desired setting" with "as requiered".

'As required' sounds better, and is commonly used in english language checklists.
