FrazMann Posted January 28, 2017 Posted January 28, 2017 (edited) Hi guys, Atm I have the following: I7 3820 cpu oc'd to 4.3ghz 64gigs of ram 660ti I'm getting some pretty terrible frame rates in dcs 1.5, 40-50fps in medium with no other aircraft, but this drops to as low as 10fps when a spitfire was right behind me punching holes through my Fw 190 with its 20mm's. Edit: it deleted half the text. I was wondering how I can check where the bottleneck is, I believe it's the gpu? Atm I'm running a 27" 1920x1200 monitor but was thinking of jumping up to a 21:9. Would love a rift but would pref to wait till they increase the pixel density. The 1080 is about 40% more than the 1070. Is it worth it or not?? Thanks for your help. FragBum Posted January 28, 2017 Posted January 28, 2017 My 980ti gets a workout in DCS 2.0.x. New rift owner here, don't worry so much about the pixel density the immersive feel more than makes up for it, but I only fly helos., when I can avoid the ground. Also I see in DCS 2.0.x it seems to use more cores maybe something to consider for the future. Control is an illusion which usually shatters at the least expected moment. Gazelle Mini-gun version is endorphins with rotors. See above. Currently rolling with a Asus Z390 Prime, 9600K, 32GB RAM, SSD, 2080Ti and Windows 10Pro, Rift CV1. bu0836x and Scratch Built Pedals, Collective and Cyclic.
FrazMann Posted January 28, 2017 Author Posted January 28, 2017 "When I can avoid the ground" lol. I've got the huey module but no pedals yet so I haven't tried it yet. The 980ti is a beast compared to my 660ti, that's for sure. From what I've read it can still give the new cards a run for their money. I've tried running nevada in 2.0, 1 x p51 vs myself (bf 109) and the whole thing seemed to hang up at some points ie near collisions etc. Was planning to try n use HWINFO to log it again today n see if it pointed to a gpu bottleneck.

Well for 1.5.x and 2 your CPU and RAM and MB should be good, may be look at graphics and SSD for OS and DCS. I'm building a PC for my daughter and looking at the 1070 for price/performance with 7700. SSD and graphics is a no brainer just need to make sure you MB is comparable, should be. those would likely squeeze some more DCS and Huey luv out of your rig. Oh and maybe spring for pedals they really help. I fly the Huey with Saitek Combat Pedals and Logitech joystick for cyclic and collective dialled in for Huey and Gazelle. Control is an illusion which usually shatters at the least expected moment. BitMaster Posted January 28, 2017 Posted January 28, 2017 I would wait for the 2080-GTX for 499US$ to arrive not too far from now. It's FASTER & CHEAPER than 1080....or get the 2080 GTX-Ti....for same as 1080 is sold now ! If you can wait..WAIT ! FrazMann Posted January 28, 2017 Author Posted January 28, 2017 Are there any etas on when it will b released. From what I understood the 1080ti is only just out or about to b released so it seems odd they'd release the new series so soon (I'm not familar with gpu release cycles though so I may b wrong.) @fragbum I have a ssd, Samsung 125gig 840 Evo I believe bit I was using until recently as a 2nd OS on the same pc. I may, assuming it's large enough, format it n through DCS on it. Thanks for the suggestion.
FragBum Posted January 28, 2017 Posted January 28, 2017 I have DCS 1.5.x on spinning HDD and DCS 2 on Intel 750 SSD the load times are much better on SSD in my rig. Cibit Posted January 28, 2017 Posted January 28, 2017 SSD's are getting to be a must with DCS these days, I am sure you will notice the difference. I have my OS on an Corsair 120Gb and my DCS instals on a 240Gb Sandisk. Load times are slashed compared to mechanical HDD. I think a 980 or 970 would be the better upgrade path unless the premium for a 1070/80 is not putting you off. Anything over a 6000 series GPU will be a huge benefit:) i5 8600k@5.2Ghz, Asus Prime A Z370, 32Gb DDR4 3000, GTX1080 SC, Oculus Rift CV1, Modded TM Warthog Modded X52 Collective, Jetseat, W10 Pro 64 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Adding JTAC Guide //My Vid's//229th AHB
BitMaster Posted January 28, 2017 Posted January 28, 2017 There will be NO 1080Ti-GTX ! It will be called 2080GTX and 2080Ti-GTX and TeslaX-V2. That's what the 3d section of the net says...and Nvidia Gigabyte Aorus X570S Master - Ryzen 5900X - Gskill 64GB 3200/CL14@3600/CL14 - Sapphire Nitro+ 7800XT - 4x Samsung 980Pro 1TB - 1x Samsung 870 Evo 1TB - 1x SanDisc 120GB SSD - Heatkiller IV - MoRa3-360LT@9x120mm Noctua F12 - Corsair AXi-1200 - TiR5-Pro - Warthog Hotas - Saitek Combat Pedals - Asus XG27ACG QHD 180Hz - Corsair K70 RGB Pro - Win11 Pro/Linux - Phanteks Evolv-X
FrazMann Posted January 28, 2017 Author Posted January 28, 2017 (edited) @BitMaster ahh ok, that's makes more sense. Any thoughts on when they will be available? Do you have a link to the website saying it's been cancelled? @Cibit just finished stripping it down to give it a dust n about to format the ssd. Here's hoping it has a bit of an impact of fps. FrazMann Posted January 29, 2017 Author Posted January 29, 2017 @Cibit, you were right, the ssd does seem to have reduced the load times alot. I got that software n logged a simple dog fight. Lowest I got was 24 but this isn't full screen. Gpu was avg 94% with max at 99. Cpu was 3.8 but with the oc it's max is 4.6 so looks like it is the gpu now that's holding it back. Does anyone know when the 20xx series cards will b released?
