looks like the US is pushing the hummers to Ukraine, just like they're doing with Poland..well i guess they're better than what we have right now fo the situation in Iraq with IEDS,but in terms of matinence i think they might be worse than the rovers...

Also how come Ukraine is getting more 29's instead of the 27's..im a 29 lover but i would think that the Su has more capability in the long run, i might be wrong..

There is nothing Gripen have, or can do that F-16 can’t, but there are still things F-16 can do which Gripen can’t.

TIDLS for example,

"Tactical Information Datalink System (TIDLS)"

Four high-bandwidth, two-way datalinks with a range of about 500 kilometers and very high resistance to jamming. The datalinks allow the Gripen to engage in combat using another aircraft's sensors or from targeting data provided by other defense systems. Data acquired from remote sources is fused and displayed on the fighter's main MFD. The link is fully operational when the aircraft is on the ground, allowing a pilot on standby to have high situational awareness of the battle environment.

One Gripen can provide radar sensing for four of its colleagues, allowing a single fighter to track a target, while the others use the data for a stealthy attack. TIDLS also permits multiple fighters to quickly and accurately lock onto a target's track through triangulation from several radars; or allows one fighter to jam a target while another tracks it; or allows multiple fighters to use different radar frequencies collaboratively to "burn through" jamming transmissions.

TIDLS also gives the Gripen transparent access to the SAAB-Ericsson 340B Erieye "mini-AWACs" aircraft, as well as the overall ground command and control system.

NATO-version also speaks Link-16, but TIDLS is used when it's possible ie fighter-to-fighter, else the data is downgraded so it can be sent with Link-16.

Well one thing tells me is that fact that they have something like 300 29s in stock. So spare parts would not be a problem for quite a while.

They only have 67 or so Su-27s in total.

Ukraine has worked on migs since the fall of the union, upgrading them, and repairing them for various air forces, I dont believe they have such capability for the Su-27s. So they can sustain their Mig fleet by on their own pretty much. Besides they have their own precision guided bombs and medium range missles, and radar which I believe theyll have an easier time fixing on the mig. Having the ability to do the upgrade at home is also 10x cheaper then sending Su-27 to Russia.

Besides an upgraded mig-29 is an ideal defence aircraft. Su-27 is the bigger plane with the bigger radar, with more weapons as if something of an invasion force machine. Ukraine just wants protection if its own air space, and having some migs stationed all over the country is ideal.

The hummers are only used in Kosovo, I believe they were given by the US as a form of aid.

Our pilots say that the data-link implemented in the A version of the gripens is much more effective. Its poor that we must 'switch' to the link-16-capable C version's data-link :)

It would be interresting to know in what way is it less effective.

From what iv'e read C/D versions are quipped with both TIDLS and Link 16 and that the systems can coexist.

^^^^Just a note here:

There are problems with the Eurofighter in assembly lines. There were problems when the gripen was deliverd to check republic. There were problems after MLU deliveries in Portugal, there were problems with chinese assembled Su-30's, there were problems with the F-22 computers and the list goes on and on. These misshaps do not surprise me and by far it is of no indication of the aircrafts quality.

Usualy they are fixed after all parts clear their edges in use.

I know. Just providing an info on the subject.
