DieHard Posted March 26, 2017 Posted March 26, 2017 Looking for Overclock Numbers for Asus Strix GTX 970 Using this article as a reference point: ======================== https://www.hardocp.com/article/2014/11/03/asus_gtx_970_strix_directcu_ii_video_card_review/3 Anybody care to embellish on a theme? What do guys with a similar build use? My CPU is a non - K version, i7-2600 using TurboBoost to 3.9 GHz DCS is on a SSD [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Abburo Posted March 26, 2017 Posted March 26, 2017 I am not using a 970, but the values from the link you provided looks a bit extreme for a GPU. The base idea however is if you can find the max GPU clock without increasing the voltage then you might remain on safe ground. Changing voltage is quite tricky on GPUs because most of them are already full throttled from factory. From my point of view it does not worth the risk because the performance increase is quite small. Wait one more CPU generation (1 year ?) then go for a full system upgrade. BitMaster Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 FYI: I have never been able with any driver since I own that 980GTX in sig to work the vCore-GPU. That was always greyed out...all I could do and actually do is set PowerLimit to max, temp to lowest ( Watercooler ) and then see how many cycles it can take. Your VRAM afaik is same as on 980, that usually clocks to 2000 ( also named 4000 or 8000 LoL). In MSI Afterburner that would read 4000. Start Kombustor and raise the GPU clock slowly while it runs, once it fails you have passed the sweetspot :) Gigabyte Aorus X570S Master - Ryzen 5900X - Gskill 64GB 3200/CL14@3600/CL14 - Sapphire Nitro+ 7800XT - 4x Samsung 980Pro 1TB - 1x Samsung 870 Evo 1TB - 1x SanDisc 120GB SSD - Heatkiller IV - MoRa3-360LT@9x120mm Noctua F12 - Corsair AXi-1200 - TiR5-Pro - Warthog Hotas - Saitek Combat Pedals - Asus XG27ACG QHD 180Hz - Corsair K70 RGB Pro - Win11 Pro/Linux - Phanteks Evolv-X

There is no Volatge dial that you can adjust, they took it away many driver versions ago iirc. Just UP the PowerTarget and watch that it stays cool. DieHard Posted March 31, 2017 Author Posted March 31, 2017 No problem with cooling! Buy a small apartment size refrigerator. Put the PC tower in the center, middle shelf and set the thermostat to zero F. Then replace door with a clear cutout to see inside the fridge with fan cutouts. Cheaper than rigging specialized CPU and GPU cooling systems. And room for snack break refreshments. Now, the refridge manufacturers are going to raise the prices on small fridges and Digital Storm will patent the idea... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Although if you really did it, I would expect there to be condensation built up because of the warmer air being created by the computer heat.
