DieHard Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 (edited) I have Win 7 Pro on my PC tower. On the same machine, I want to upgrade it to Win 10 Pro. Do I need to deactivate my DCS modules before installing Windows 10? Is there much to worry about with the update? Should it be a smooth transition? How much added hard drive room should I need? Have i7-2600 (non-K) CPU and Geforce GTX 970 with 16GB RAM and 2 hybrid spinning disks in RAID and a SSD for DCS. Thanks Edited April 2, 2017 by DieHard [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Cibit Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 I overall had a very good experience with the update route. No major problems at all. The upshtot for me was I got a lot of space back on my OS SSD for some reason. W10 seems to clean up temp folders much better than W7. It also appears faster. I don't think I deactivated modules though. You know its no longer a free update unless you need the adaptive technologies https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3093433&postcount=8 i5 8600k@5.2Ghz, Asus Prime A Z370, 32Gb DDR4 3000, GTX1080 SC, Oculus Rift CV1, Modded TM Warthog Modded X52 Collective, Jetseat, W10 Pro 64 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Adding JTAC Guide //My Vid's//229th AHB

Paganus Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 A couple of things that happened to me upgrading. I had no sound after updating. I had to find a new driver for the sound chip on my main board. Some hardware address changes were made during the upgrade. This caused my controllers to be crossed up initially.
cichlidfan Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 First, I would download Win 10 drivers, from the hardware vendor, for everything inside the box , including a full set of mobo drivers. In most cases, Win 10 will either update the driver to one that is included with Windows or it will just leave the Win 7 driver in place. Either of these situations can cause undesirable performance issues. Even if the component appears to be working, after the upgrade, it is still a good idea to install the latest driver from the vendor, instead of the one that MS thinks is the best choice.
